Is the 650 much of an upgrade over the 640? It looks smarter, but specs not much different.
For the same money as the 650 I could go for the 640XL and get larger screen and larger battery.
Apart from pixel numbers, is there likely to be much difference in the cameras? Camera only gets used for FB and the like so even 5MP is more than enough for that.
And is the amoled screen on the 650 better/nicer than the LCD panels on the 640s?
I'd like a decent camera, but I think I like better battery life more.

I have a 930 at the moment and the screen is slowly turning green. I could get it repaired, but given that I believe the problem is an overheating issue i'm reluctant to see it happen all over again. Esp as MS and Nokia deny that it is, despite their being plenty of reported cases of it out there.

Anyhoo... how much of a difference will i notice from my 930, given that I don't play any games on it. I do use it for movies while travelling, plus FB, qwb browsing, satnav and other lowish intensity apps.

640. Best value for money - slightly faster than 650 and way cheaper.
650. Best style
640XL. Best if you want a larger screen.

Web will feel slower than 930. Apps will take a little longer to load but when running will be the same. Camera worse. But your suggested alternatives are great value. 640 especially in the US if you can pick up one of those $30-40 deals.

Funny I'm trying the same route, 930 to 6xx so it will be interesting to see the differences.

My plan is to get a 640 XL LTE to see if I like the screen size before getting a more expensive phone in a few months. I'm not really impressed with the 950 XL though....

640 XL LTE is now down to 160 quid on the MS site

I am using a 640 and the camera is great but not really at night and it uploads my images on facebook slowly.and it is really nice for watching movies.

Think I'll go with the 640XL. The extra real estate is nice and the larger battery is a plus. Comparing images on the web between this and the camera on the 1020 and the difference is not massive. Plug a 32Gb card in and sorted.

I think it will be a hassle without a camera button which I'll miss along with Qi charging.....but on the plus side there will be glance!

Yes... I like the camera button on my 930 and I'll have to put a tile to the camera on the home screen to acess it as quickly as possible. I should still get something for the 930, despite the screen, as it's working fine otherwise. I'll miss the feel/build of the 930 as the 640XL looks less premium.

Dumb qustion but isn't their a camera function from the swipe down at the top?

I would go with the 640xl. The rear shooter is, from memory, around 13mpix and the front is a 5 (?), which is an improvement over the 640 / 650. As for speed, you won't notice a great deal of difference unless you are hammering it! A great phone. An unsung hero in the line up. The 640 is a great phone as well, and so cheap in US that you could buy the whole family one and have change out $150!!

Yes, swipe down to get quick actions and the camera is there. I'm currently running the 640 on W10 and everything is working well with no major bugs. The camera is way more than enough for FB--it is probably the best camera on a low-cost phone. Definitely an upgrade from the camera on the 635 and 520, but not in the league with the 640XL. Personally, the size is about as big a phone as I want to handle. I can just about one-hand it, but it is definitely more difficult than one-handing a 635. I could care less about the looks of the 650 since it will instantly be put in a case and never come out of it. I might pick up a 650 some day if/when the price comes way down, and/or I break the 640 or something. I would say that the 640 and 650 are very close in performance, with the current low price ($29.95 here in the USA) in the 640s favor.

Ive owned the 640, 640XL and the L930 - I would say the order for my preference is L930 followed by the 640XL then the 640.

L930 - Best camera, much better performance, nicer build, dedicated camera button, amazing screen, very handy bright dual torch/flash, music sound quality through bluetooth/headphones is far superior, Battery life is worse than the XL or the 640. Runs windows 10 superbly.
640XL - Nice large screen, but no where near as nice as the L930, battery life, pretty good camera, slick performance, but loading times and gaming are noticeably slower than the L930. Runs Windows 10 OK
640 - Same performance as the XL, but lacks battery life and camera quality.

I would say 640 over the xl unless you have huge hands. I was using my note while I was waiting for my 1020 screen to arrive. It was terrible trying to use the phone with one hand. I love the size of the 1020 so the 640 would be my choice.

I have a 1520 and of course that thing is a monster but yes I agree Trying to one hand it is difficult to do. I am 6'7 and I have huge hands but these bigger phones that are nicer from one aspect for people trying to merge two devices into one its great but now Im considering going backwards. The 640 looks appealing because it's bigger than than the standard iPhone size (Not the Plus) and yet smaller than most XL's.

Ive been looking at the specs on the 640 and the RAM isn't different at all. Biggest thing Ive heard thats a plus is the camera on the XL.

I haven't noticed a "battery life" problem on my Lumia 640 running W10 so far, but I have only been using the phone for about four days. I generally have around 30% battery life by the end of a normal day, which so far is better than on my 635 running WP8.1. Both my wife and I have 640s now and she has been using hers since Christmas. We both charge overnight, then run all day until bed time. That's all I can ask from a phone battery.

I will agree to that. Compare a WP to an iOS device and we are leap years ahead on Battery. Although I will say some of that is because of our lack of apps. We don't have all the phone home apps all the other devices to do hence no battery draw.

In our office most people use iPhones and there is constant chatter about who has a charger and cable and they mostly plug in whenever and wherever. So far on Windows phones past and present I have been able to go all day long most days. I would not put up with a phone that couldn't at least get me through a normal working day without needing a charge. In the past on WP8.1 I forgot to bring a charger a couple of times on trips and was able to nurse the phone through a weekend by limiting usage.

Not to mention - WP Micro USB Cable - Done.. Iphone - Lightning Cable - Uh... Yeah..

Sorry to thread hijack :)

Where do you see this?????

Would this be across the pond in European markets? For the US, as far as I can tell, it's $249.99 still for the device only 640 XL and $299.99 for the 640 XL LTE.

No worries. I was hoping for a price cut that I could go back to Microsoft with and ask for a partial credit.
