830 Lumia has lost microphone unless in speaker mode

Lumia 830 running Windows 10 Phone 8.1 Update 2 has lost microphone unless in speaker mode. Reset phone and microphone recovered for one call only, then problem returned. Can no longer talk to girlfriend with wife in room.

Have same issue on L830 running 8.1. Issue is caused by faulty or gunked up headphone jack : the inline microphone detector status stays stuck to "on", therefore it mutes the phone microphone. This also affects Cortana: She can't hear you anymore either, unless you actually plug a headphone with inline microphone... You can confirm the microphone is still working by taking a video or recorder app.
It's a real PITA. Tried cleaning with compressed air and it worked but only for a short while.
Let me know if you find a permanent solution to this

Update :
Tapping he phone and cleaning the headphone jack wasn't fixing the problem anymore, so I opened the phone, removed the headphone jack and cleaned it up some more. This worked for a while, but it's busted again now.

I have ordered 2x replacement headphone jacks to replace the faulting one currently in the phone. They sell for about $6 on eBay. This should be a permanent fix.
