8s vs 520

Ok so as 8s' prices have been dropped and in my country it is available at same price as Lumia 520? I don't play games on mobile so space won't be a problem,but is it still worth considering?

HTC 8S has 4GB internal storage, I'm betting around 2-3GB storage for your apps. The Lumia 520 has 8GB, so that's 6GB for your apps. Both have SD cards so music and videos won't be a problem. The only real advantage of the 8S is the LED flash. Call it nitpicking but I prefer the look and feel of the 8S than the 520 - it looks premium and feels durable, the 520 just feels plastic, but not cheap Samsung plastic. Afaik, the 8S has IPS LCD screen.

Since internal storage won't be a problem to you, I'd personally recommend the 8S over the 520, because you also get the additions I mentioned.

so how much free space is there for apps in 4gb internal space???does it lag,or freeze when u are running low with space?also is gdr2 installable,any space issues??how much space will be remained after gdr2? also yes i do like the 8s' design,extreme beauty...

Hi, I own a HTC 8S.
Although it has 4GB internal storage, the op system takes up about 2.34GB, 100Mb for email+messaging and 200MB temp files.
You are perhaps left with around 1.2GB for apps.
It doesn't lag or freeze when low on space, but you will get low space alerts.
I have gdr3 on my phone which has released a bit more memory (previously other would take about 800mb, where as now temp files is about 200ish mb).
You do have to be careful doing the gdr updates as they can be up to 800mb in size, so previously I have had to uninstall apps to do the update (and then reinstall them).

4GB phones should be forbidden. Seriously. Leaving user with slightly over 1GB of free memory is simply a joke.

And HTC is just hopeless when it comes to support for such product. I was really hoping for a solution that would allow to store the application data on a SD card (well, if it even was only map data that would be stored there, it would help a lot the phones usability). But HTC seems not to care at all.

So at the moment I'd advice to keep away from HTC products (taking their business situation into account). It's a pity, because 8S has really great design and some potential, too. But that 4GB of memory...

I'm a bit biased as I have an 8S but I am also a Nokia fan. I owned a Lumia 900 previously. As to which one to choose I would say the 8S is a more "upscale" phone, at least when it comes to look and feel. I have a running review of the 8S. You can check my post history. The 8S screen is nicer and has Gorilla Glass 2, the 520 doesnt. If you can live with the 4gb limit (I can) i think the 8s is a better choice. You may have to do some fancy app management to keep under the 1.6gb free limit but i think its worth it.

One thing in the 520s advantage is that Nokia is really great with after-sale support. I had some issues with my 900 and they were great. I havent had a need to deal with HTC yet, but they have a pretty bad rep when it comes to support. Who knows.. Maybe they're ok.

1. Gorilla Glass 2 ... well, I'd say a downgrade from original GG. I got mine screen scratched in first week of usage. While my previous phone, Motorola Milestone survived over 2 years without slightest scratch.
2. Fancy apps management ... Yeah, You have to be a magician. Or get Android based handset for apps and use WP for calling only.
3. HTC support ... does it exist ? I haven't noticed

Pick an 8S:

1) Superior design to the L520
2) Better materials than L520
3) I assume better sound, being made by HTC and all.
4) You care of Flash
5) You want a device that looks nice and just works
6) 4 GB, 1.5 GB user accessible
7) Gorilla Glass 2 display. This is plain NICE.

Pick a L520:
1) You want exchangeable shells
2) Superior camera (due to Nokia's expertize + the Nokia Camera app), even without the flash.
3) Has 8 GB instead of 4; 4.7 user accessible
4) If you will even use maps, Nokia's maps are great and can be stored on the SD card.
5) Great Nokia apps and better support (every OS update brings Nokia specific updates. This is debatable after the acquisition by Microsoft though)

If you like the 8S more but you have doubts because of the limited internal storage, the April-to-be-released 8.1 update should resolve this problem, since you'll be able to install apps on the SDCard.

On WP8 GDR3, if you have under 200 MB free, the phone might operate weirdly sometime. Nothing serious. Again, things might change after the 8.1 update.
