928 may be coming to Rogers!?!?

My desire for a Lumia 920 indirectly influenced my brother to go replace his iphone 4S and Blackberry Torch with a Rogers Lumia 920 today. The 920 is now free on a 3 year contract.

He went to the Rogers store, and they were all out of white, red, and yellow. The rep told him that "these phones are on clearance, we're trying to get rid of them."

My brother then went to another Rogers store and managed to get the last white 920. The rep there said the same thing about clearance. My brother asked, "is this because of the 928 coming out?", and the rep replied, "yeah, I think so."

By no means concrete, I'd give it a 2 or 3 out of 10 on the rumour scale for now. The rep's answer could may have well been the equivalent of, "yeah, whatever dude." I'd also assume this means a "global" variant of 928, not necessarily showing up on Rogers called the "928".

On a side note, I'm happy that my interest in WP8 has indirectly influenced a sale, but bummed out that I still don't have a 920. I've wanted the 920 since launch, but unwilling to switch from Bell to Rogers for it. Yeah, I know that I could switch carriers, but it upsets me that the iphone, z10, or misc. flagship andriod is available on Bell / Rogers / Telus, but the 920 is the only stupid exclusive flagship that isn't on all 3 carriers.

Uhhhh...Maybe who knows what's going on with Rogers but the store reps or customer service reps will NEVER EVER know what's coming until the day of

Just cross your fingers!

dammit if they are clearing out 920, what does that mean for me and future firmware updates from Rogers!

I do find it difficult to believe that they would be clearing it out. It's only 6 months old. I just spoke with my brother over the phone, and he said that the rep at the first store was not interested in making a sale or trying to be helpful at all. The dude at the 2nd store was professional and gets a thumb up for his service.

Granted, Canada isn't exactly a Windows Phone hot spot, maybe sales have been poor. The problem is that most people don't even know of it or give it a consideration. I've been telling friends about WP8 in an effort to make my small contribution towards making people aware of their options.

It doesn't help that Rogers doesn't even push the Lumia 920. The Rogers store closest to me is pushing the Z10 with its own special display stand, while a black Lumia 920 is mixed in with a crowd of misc. black phones. So much for giving special attention to their exclusive phone. At least Rogers store that my brother went to has a dummy red and dummy yellow which stand out from the crowd. But I went to that same store last weekend to check out the 920, and the only real phone is a black one that they had unplugged from power supply. I plugged in and powered on the 920, and proceeded to tell some random guy all about the 920's features when he asked me, "is that the 920?".

Well I'm glade your brother got a 920!!!

And yes it's horrible here in Canada, I had a sales rep telling me why I should get an iPhone instead and how superior it is to everything else while I was inquiring about the Lumia 900 Cyan when it was going to be release.

but that's funny to say about the display though because the stores I went to even after the Z10 was released, had all 4 colours lined up to each other and it was prominent too. But the stores I went to was not corporate though.

a rep from Rogers called me last week saying I'm such a great customer and I that I'm currently using a lumia 920 and have special upgrade offer for iphone or samsung. I said the 920 IS the upgrade!!

It's not in the eyes of these reps!!!

Ive had a Rogers rep ask me why I wanted to buy a budget phone when I went in looking at the Lumia 920. He tried to direct me toward the S3 or Z10 instead.
I said no thanks and left.

Most Rogers reps I have dealt with give you a weird look when they see you looking at a Windows Phone and ask something stupid like, "why do you want that?". If it's a guy in his 20s he will start telling you about how great Android is and pretend he knows a lot about tech by randomly dropping in the term "open source" every now and then. One guy even got a little testy with me and asked me to name features of WP so that he could counter it with Android's features. I just left.

Also I agree with others here that reps wouldn't know what phones are incoming. I have a friend who did second level customer support for Rogers and I would ask him if he knew which phones were coming and he said he didn't know until close to launch when they would do training for the new phones.

Now you know exactly how I and probably thousands of others felt, except I'm not in Canada. Lol. In the US, I called a few stores to inquire about the 8x...half the reps didn't know anything about it. The other half were confused as to why I wasn't interested in the S3! Its very frustrating, when most consumers assume that the reps just want to sell a phone, but the reality is that many carriers have contracts with phone manufacturers to sell a certain number of handsets. Apple and Galaxy phones were said to be examples of this. If you ever wonder why some stores have huge iPhone or gs3 displays, its not because the ads matched the decor....its because they pay big money to carriers to make sure that their phones are sold. The reps are just following the terms of the contract...the sad thing about all of this is that ppl can be easily swayed to buy/think/agree with anything as long as its accepted by the majority...

I agree. When I went to a Virgin store to buy my HTC 8S (Yeah it's the little brother I know, but it's perfect for my needs :P) the rep. tried to sell me an iPhone instead. He was like : "Are you sure you don't want an iPhone instead of that thing?"
I looked at him and said : "You are asking me, a graphic designer, if I would like an OS with glossy things, brushed patterns and gradients everywhere, instead of a minimalistic and modern one? You're funny, go get me my phone in the back please :) "
