I got an att lumia 950. When I'm in the camera app settings, it only lets me select a maximum of 16 mp. Not the 20 I was under the impression of having. Is there something I don't know or understand? Maybe I misread all the spec sheets that state 20 mp? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks
Brian

16:9 and 4:3 show same 16mp options. Does anyone else's 950 show this?

The only options are
Jpeg 16mp
Jpeg 8mp
Jpeg 8mp + dng 16mp

That's interesting. When I change my aspect ratio, it automatically switches from 16 to 19 megapixels jpeg. 16 being the 16:9 ratio, 19 obviously then being the other.

Don't have to mess with anything.

Same thing on the 930/929-ICON.... I think it's what is called a 16 + 4 (2 pictures made for each)

Thanks lol. Works now by going to 19 with 4:3. so if the camera is "native 16:9" why isn't 16:9 19 mp :( just makes me sad. Not too familiar with camera/photo stuff. Just curious I guess.
Because 16:9 isn't the native format of the sensor.

The advertised MP is based on the sensor, the software determines how many pixels are in the final image. It's probably oversampling to get a better overall picture??

I believe that the sensor is round but the picture captured from it is a rectangle. Since a square will use more area of a circle than a rectangle, the closer the ratio is to a square, the more pixels you will be able to use of the sensor. That's why the 16:9 has less pixels than the 4:3.
