"Magical" fixes aren't great but I'm glad that yours are back. I'm in the same boat but haven't been blessed with a restoration yet on my 950XL. I reset my 1520 (which was running Redstone) and it, too, didn't restore texts.*Update* I never received a call back from Microsoft and haven't had a chance to call them. But today, my texts started loading, all the way back to 2013. Not sure if they fixed the issue or if just took forever to start. Either way, they are back!
I'd lay pretty good odds that you haven't "lost" your SMS history. The problem is that, after a hard reset, our phones aren't pulling down the list from our Microsoft accounts' storage for some reason. Hopefully someone will find the issue on the server side and fix it soon.:unhappysweat:
I dropped my 950XL on the weekend... devastated. grabbed my old 1520 out, made sure it was WP10. did a fresh back up on the 950 and then erased the phone. power on the 1520, everything returned from back up except 4 years of sms. not a single one. so i turned off auto back up. i've power cycled a million times, i have updated, i have turned sms b/u off and on as well as tried changing from always to a year to a month.
am devo i lost messages esp mms which i had relied on being in the back up
*edit* In windows feedback there are lots of complaints about this. guess just need to sit tight. cmon gabe!!
A quick follow up to share that if you have Windows 10 on a desktop PC, Laptop or tablet, you can try "Windows Phone Message Backup" from the Win 10 Store. It might not get all of your text messages, but it should get a bunch of them. It did for me.am devo i lost messages esp mms which i had relied on being in the back up
