This may be a really specific problem which may be why I've had so much trouble finding any information on it. So, that said, apologies if this has been discussed (search revealed nothing).

I have a 950XL on build 10586.318.

Going to Settings > System > Display > Size of text, apps and items on this display...
If I put my screen scaling to the very lowest - 250% - it seems to make my calendar 'downgrade' to an older version. I lose any ability to access any sort of settings menu, and I lose the option to select Month view which is the one I use most.

For a while, I thought my calendar was just refusing to update. Then one day I tried to change up to 350% because I heard it improves battery life. Voila, my Calendar app worked like it is supposed to! It's like a completely different version of the app. I have my beloved month view back!

Switching back to 250% ruins it again.

Any information on this? Any ideas?

I noticed the same thing. I assume it's just a bug. I am currently using 300% which splits the difference and it has month view.

Thanks for the heads up. I had another friend confirm the same thing. Unfortunately I'm too addicted to 250% that I can't stand 300%. So I'm kind of just dealing with the week view and hoping this gets noticed by MS and fixed. It's been reported on the feedback app. Cheers!

It's been like that for ages and there's stuff in the feedback app about it dating months back, sadly. It's annoying as now I've used my phone at 250% everything seems too big if I switch back to 300%!

The Maps app has a similar problem showing the desktop mode rather than mobile view at 250%.

I'm running at 300% for this reason. I saw some other issues at 250 (I really wish 275 was available), and gave up, even though, like you, I was pretty addicted to the real-estate with the scaling. I'll go upvote it though, I forgot to do that, when I switched, awhile back.
