Following an update about 2 weeks ago on my 950XL Dual Sim with Windows 10 Mobile 1709 (10.0.15254.1), I get the following error when trying to use the Front Camera: 0xA00F4271 (0xC00D3704).

The odd thing is my wife's phone (950XL Dual Sim) started to do the exact same thing about two weeks ago. It's a bit of a stretch to say that both of our front facing cameras have failed at the same time.

Anyone seen this. Google search shows a few.... all dating to about a 8 months to 1 year ago and with a variety of Windows Phones.

I've had this problem with my 950XL dual SIM for a few months. I took it into a MS store, where after a complete factory reset, they said it was broken (hardware error). Also, they wouldn't fix it - they offered me $50 for a $500 phone!
I've been living without it, and though it's taken Windows Hello out, it's more of a minor annoyance than a reason to buy a new phone.

Had this issue with Lumia 1520. It came on suddenly after a routine software update, then off dead again.😅

The wife's phone is working fine.

I found an online source (ebay) for the front-facing camera module. I also have the instructions how to tear the phone apart and replace it. I wonder if it's worth the trouble.

Same issue on my 950xl, it stopped working right after I installed the update. To many of us have this issue right after the new update installation, so it may not be hardware issue but more a hardware driver or firmware issue. The sad part MS won't do anything being that they are stopping warranty or support very soon.

Mine stopped working a year ago. I tried wiping and resetting and it worked exactly once then gave me the error. That leads me to believe it's software related.

It's definitely software related problem. It mostly affect flagship high end models. Never had camera issues with 535, 650, but encountered camera problems with 1520 and 920.

I bought my 950xl dual sim second hand and it came with this fault, iris recognition also doesn't work. I opted not to take a replacement as there was no guarantee that I'd get the dual sim variant, which was more important than taking selfies.

Hello all.

I bought a used 950xl off ebay the other day and the camera doesn't work at all. As soon as open the camera app this error code pops up. Has anybody got an idea what I can do? It seems that many others are having a similar problem. A 950xl without a working camera is not really worth it, is it? I'm not sure even if I can return it as "The seller won't accept returns for this item." But I don't really want to return it as everything else is working perfectly, I just want the camera to work. Any suggestions to what I could do?

You could try wiping and re-flashing the ROM.. After this youll need to Update and re-set up your xl.. so set aside a good few hours or so.. Heres the link:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2515453

Make sure you back everything up first... I did not write or share in this tutorial.. Im only sharing the link... So Im not responsible if you brick your xl..

Good Luck
