HID (i.e. support of mice and keyboards) will allow for a literal Pocket-PC. One can put their Windows Phone on the table and then tap on app that enables the phone to project a specific UI to the big screen. If you link it up with a mouse and keyboard, you've got a PC in your pocket. Imagine the use case scenarios with WP's new video and audio editing APIs, or the incoming remote-desktop app, etc. You might think this is useless, but it's just another point to leverage in WP's favour against the competition. Heck, it'll also pave the way for next-gen tablets (that combine WP and RT).
