AC 1 Is it needed to enjoy the others?

I have played AC really out of order, I started with AC 2 when it was GWG and only played the first part, then I bought AC Liberation and got about maybe half through it, I grabbed Black Flag as a GWG and I also got 3, Brotherhood and Revelation, during that ultimate sale. I want to jump back into the series but I haven't played 1, is it really needed or should I just start 2 over and play in order ? Most reviews says its boring.
