According to Rogers, Canadians will NOT be getting the Lumia 830

With how clueless these employees are maybe rebranding to Microsoft Windows will actually eliminate some of the confusion/ ignorance.

Maybe but probably not. The exact same problem happened several years ago with webOS. Unless your phone ran android or iOS they didn't care, nor had meaningful incentive to care. No amount of education will fix lazy.

Agreed. I laugh at the garbage coming out of many reps mouths when I overhear conversations in stores. So many are too lazy to educate themselves on the products they are selling. The misinformation is so bad. I would hope that people would have more pride in what they do but I guess not. 😞

Problem is that same MobileSyrup "source" previously said the release was Oct. 8th.
We are now Oct. 9th: still no word that the 830 is available at Rogers, and their site still has no reference to it.
The tweets and FB messages from Rogers all say the same chirpy thing : release date is unknown, but soon(tm).

I call bull on MobileSyrup's "source".

They'll probably just update that release date every day until it's actually available.

I've tweeted MobileSyrup to validate their claims yesterday and today and was met with radio silence. Their credibility takes a plunge with this one.

Since Bell and Telus are getting it on the 15th, I guess it's safe to assume at this point that Rogers will get it on the same date as well since it's not an exclusive. Looks like Mobilesyrup's sources were wrong.

Rogers is getting it, we just don't know when.

Alright. I am a front line Rogers employee, typing this on my 1020. Alot of you think of us as clueless (I'm sure some are) but the majority of us don't care what phone you buy. Be it windows, iPhone or android, we just want you to get whatever phone you want, because that gets US money. Rogers initially told us we were launching the 830, and sent us our dummy units. Since then, there has been ABSOLUTELY NO information given to us regarding this phone. Our superiors don't have any info to give us. In the end, yes that's Rogers fault for not advising its employees about what's happening with this device, but it IS NOT the reps fault. When selling a phone to a customer, I always present windows phone as an option. As does every other rep here. But the fact we only have one low end windows phone to sell, really hurts. So Microsoft Canada, and the carriers, both need to remedy this. It's not the reps fault we can't stock the phone you want, blame MS.

The Oct.15th date was for Bell only, AFAIK.

Where did you hear about it for Telus?

If it's from MobileSyrup, I have bad news for you... :winktongue:

To be fair, I'm pretty sure the Bell on the 15th thing also came from Mobilesyrup. ;)

Any idea why the Oct 8th release was missed?

Sorry about the "clueless" bit, though technically, those specific reps were indeed clueless about the 830.

Of course, it's much easier for a customer to obsess and know everything about a specific model, than for a rep to know everything about every model. Plus, you guys deal with brain dead clients all day long: kudos on your patience and tenacity. And obviously, it's not the reps fault that this phone or that phone is not available, but then the fault goes to those murky faceless entities, "Rogers", "MS", "Apple", etc. Frustrating.

Most reps simply gave me the information on Rogers website; it seems that even the company front line has no means to get more information from within the company. I thought release dates and availability would have been knowledge the reps would have access to; sadly, it doesn't seem so...

We can only wish for more complete communications between the front line and the company's own internals, and suppliers...

Time to go nag MS Canada!

No idea why the date was missed :(. They gave us that date a few weeks ago, along with dummy units. Than nothing. It is sad, because earlier in the year we had a visit to our store from 2 Nokia/MS reps, and I told them that the situation in Canada is bad. They assured us that once the acquisition was complete, that MS would be forming strong ties with the dealers (80% of Rogers stores are privately owned). Alas since then, nothing. No word of anything. Like I said most reps like windows phone, but having only one low end device sucks, because that gets us no money. Really wish MS Canada would get off their wallets

Good to hear the Microsoft recognizes the problem, could be the reason why the 830 is going to be available on all three carriers. Myself, I've found that on the Telus side of things that the people who work in the stores are generally positive about Windows Phone as well. The girl that helped me purchase my Ativ S was thrilled that someone other then her was so interested in the platform. I also met a wireless rep at Futureshop that absolutely hates the fact that FS refuses to carry any WP models at all. I really think the interest is out there in Canada (And North America as a whole) there just isn't the exposure. Hopefully as the platform continues to gain momentum in Europe things will start to change.

That is so frustrating. Rawr.

Someone up there, MS, Rogers, or both, dropped the ball on this... and is probably not even getting any trouble for it.

If this had happened for any iPhone release, there would have been news headline, angry mobs, riots, anarchy, public hangings...

Too bad Windows Phone doesn't have the mindshare and cult following of Apple. But then again, that's also why I prefer Windows Phone...

It is frustrating, especially for those of us working here who genuinely love windows phone and try to show people what it has to offer. It's not just us tho. If it doesn't have Apple pr Samsung on it, our dealer companies could care less. Even the M8 and the G3 are "special order only" devices in our stores, and those are flagships! This industry really blows sometimes

This is an update from Mobilesyrup:

Update #2: We’ve been informed that the Nokia Lumia 830 has seen a slight delay in its Canadian launch. Nokia reps are saying that it is “later this month,” but according to sources Rogers will now be releasing the Windows Phone device next week, while Bell is on deck to launch on October 22nd.

Also, my co workers and i often joke about how we get our Rogers "news" from mobile syrup. Seriously, we read it there before they tell us.

Awesome! I'll let you know when I'm done the layout then maybe you folks can help with the posts!

Sounds like a great idea. Would love to help out with something like that for other Canadian WP fans.

The website is up and running! If anyone would like to honestly help, just private message me please! I've also registered http://www.windowsphonecanada.ca so the domain is updating right now with the wordpress page! :) Hopefully it should fully update in the next 24 hours!

So excited!
