Advantage of configuring Outlook.com account on WP8.1?

Hi,

I have a @Hotmail.com email address which is locked to my Lumia 1020 as the Microsoft account for the device.

Is there any advantage to turning off the email sync for this account (settings>email and accounts > Microsoft account > "Content to sync" tick box) and rather setting up a separate Outlook.com email account, for which I also have an alias?

My thinking is that since Outlook.com is an EAS type mail, synchronisation should be faster, but I am not sure of my facts here.

Mark.

Correct me, if I'm wrong, but it shouldn't make any difference, if you use *@outlook.com, *@live.com or *hotmail.com.. Each of these reflect a valid Microsoft account and use EAS for synchronization. Regardless how old they are.

I think you can create an outlook.com alias and then change it to your primary.
It wont work any differently though.

It should work no differently since hotmail, outlook, live, all plug into the same back end. So I would recommend you not do that.

Thanks all, looks like the consensus is that outlook.com and hotmail.com will behave the same, so I am going to leave my phone unchanged.

I did this, ONLY because I like the way outlook.com sounds with my email. Hotmail, in my opinion, sounds juvenile now.
