Am I being really silly or have Microsoft got themselves confused and put the alarm sounds underneath ringer and notifications? I can't seem put the phone onto silent and have my alarm volume up loud! It means in effect I have to keep my phone on loud during the night to hear my alarm in the morning... Meanwhile the phone will still be making noises for messages and emails etc :( lol.

Anyone else having this issue?

Cheers.

Mine works as before. Touch the volume button then the down arrow and click on the bell next to ringer and notifications to mute it. The alarm will still sound....

Just tested myself and alarm sound is independent of ringer/notifications and app sounds on mine, played fine with both muted.

I just tested my alarm after first sliding the volume controls for both phone and alerts to the off position.
Glad to see it is working for me. The alarm comes on at a decently loud enough volume.

Not to go to off topic, but what alarms do people use? I'm using the ever irritating Alarm 1. Wakes me up every time haha.

I'm using Beatles "here comes the sun". Seemed appropriate for early mornings. I also like the OEM "marbles" , sounds pleasant.

On mine, Alarm volume is tied to Ringer + Notifications but muting Ringer + Notifications does not mute the alarm.

ie. If I drag the Ringer + Notifications volume to 0, the alarm is muted, but if I mute the Ringer + Notifications without dragging the bar, the alarm is not muted (even though the bar still goes to 0)

A little odd as there is no way to check whether Ringer + Notifications is muted or turned all the way down.

I dragged the bars and the alarm still worked. Was happy to see this.

Weird, My alarm didnt' wake me up this morning. Under wp8, the alarm volume was always "Loud" regardless of what the phone was last set to. This was a feature I really liked, as I could have everything quiet, and still hear the alarm in the morning, no matter what.
This morning (with 8.1), My wife woke me up when I was supposed to be at work, so now I tested the alarm, and it was barely audible (all the sounds are at max) with me listening for it.
Next step is to do a hard reset and see if that doesn't help. If that doesn't, I'll have to use NSU and put 8.0 back on it :-/

WP8 I've never had this issue. This is with an HTC Arrive (WP7.5, but still), the HTC 8XT, Nokia 521, and Nokia 925. This is the first time I've had an issue with alarms not working.

For some reason, during my testing this morning, either the volume was too low (barely audible) or it failed to even bring the phone out of standby to put the snooze/dismiss buttons up, sound alarm. I did a hard reset, and it appears to be waking up properly now, but still seems quieter than normal, but I will chalk that up to being in a much louder area at work than in my quiet bedroom.

Heck, if you want to buy an android to be your alarm clock, go for it. But if you're going to go that extreme, might as well just buy a "real" alarm clock, they're a lot cheaper, and they always work as intended. Thats what woke me up this morning, my wifes 7am alarm clock. Problem is, I'm scheduled to be there for 7 :-/

For what it's worth, on my HTC 8XT the alarm was independent of all other volumes, and always sounded at max volume. This still appears to be the case for me after 8.1 update.

I noticed this exact thing on my L920...pretty ridiculous - why would they tie it to Ringer + Notifications at all? Alarms should have their own set volume in the app - so ones to wake you up are always loud, whereas ones during the day don't need to be as loud.

Pretty dumb how they have it set up. I've been late to work twice now because of no alarm volume...

I'm having an issue where my alarm volume is way too loud! No matter what I set the 2 volume bars at, my alarm in the morning is at full blast. It basically scares me out of my sleep since I keep the phone right next to me on the night stand. I have a friend at work that also updated to WP8.1 and he's experiencing the same problem. I'd like to lower this volume a little bit.

i think there should definitely be a separate volume control for the alarm clock.
what you can do is use a MP3 for your alarm sound and lower the volume of the MP3 on your PC before putting it on the phone

did you try a hard reset yet? Any luck?

They are separate and work just fine. if you updated to 8.1 one of the bugs is that the alarms from 8.0 didn't work. So you gotta delete those and create new alarms in 8.1. Alarms always worked just fine regardless of whether the phone is on silent or not, that is the case in both 8.0 and 8.1
