Is Microsoft going to build stand alone helper like alexa but it would be Cortana

I would think that they're in a unique position in that they have Cortana (and Hey Cortana) available on just about any Windows 10 PC configured to use Cortana, which could possibly negate the need for hardware like that used by Google or Amazon? (even over the lock screen I believe? I don't recall)
