  • When I installed graphic driver from: AMD website, Windows update, Device Manager, and many driver updater tools like IObit Driver Booster ... a black screen appears for too long time (with sound) and never ends and PC freeze until pressing power button, and after restarting Windows fail to boot.
  • I installed AMD Auto-Detect and Install Tool but that ended with error 182.
  • Sometimes, after updating the graphic driver, Windows starts but this error code 31 appears.
Please help.

It seems like your HP ProBook 4740s is experiencing a persistent issue with the graphics driver installation, which results in a black screen and freezing. Here are some steps to help resolve this issue:

Step 1: Uninstall Current Graphics Drivers
Boot into Safe Mode:

Restart your computer and press F8 before the Windows logo appears.
Choose "Safe Mode with Networking" from the list of options.
Uninstall Graphics Drivers:

Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
Expand the Display adapters section.
Right-click on your AMD graphics driver and select Uninstall device.
Check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device" and click Uninstall.
Step 2: Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)
Download DDU:

Download DDU from Guru3D.
Extract the downloaded file.
Run DDU:

Restart your computer into Safe Mode again.
Run DDU and choose to clean and restart your computer.
Step 3: Install the Correct Driver
Download the Driver:

Go to the HP Support website and search for your ProBook 4740s model.
Download the recommended AMD graphics driver for Windows 10 from HP’s official website.
Install the Driver:

Run the downloaded driver installer.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Step 4: Disable Automatic Driver Updates
Disable Automatic Updates for Drivers:
Press Win + R, type sysdm.cpl, and press Enter.
Go to the Hardware tab and click on Device Installation Settings.
Choose No (your device might not work as expected) and click Save Changes.
Additional Tips:
Check for BIOS Update:

Ensure your BIOS is up to date by visiting the HP support website and searching for BIOS updates for your ProBook 4740s.
Check for Windows Updates:

Ensure your Windows 10 is fully updated by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and checking for updates.
If Problems Persist:
If you still encounter issues, consider rolling back to a previous version of the graphics driver or contacting HP support for further assistance. The issue might be related to compatibility problems between the driver and your specific hardware configuration.
