The problem is still here in the U.S., with Microsoft having virtually no pull given the small marketshare. Lumia needs to somehow appeal to the average Joe and Jane and build a mindless following a la the iPhone.

I don't see how that's ever going to happen, but I could be a glass half empty kinda guy...
