Anybody succeeded at unlocking the 830?

Digging up old thread, but anyone have a service they've used that worked? I typed the IMEI into imei info and it came back as a 1020, so that didn't make me feel too inspired to use them.

I have an 830, RM-985, with carrier 000-CA. Putting a US sim card in it says it needs an unlock code. Apparently, this phone is locked to Rogers.

How do I get an unlock code from them so that I can use this in the US? Or, do I do go through an online provider?

Do you read thru all the posts to see if anyone had success...if not then that's your answer. I have an unlocked Telus and I bought it unlocked because I haven't read where anyone found a 3rd party to unlock an 830. Only a carrier can or has. And you have to have a contract with a carrier to get them to unlock it and even with a contract it's often difficult. Good luck.

I'd be OK paying Rogers to do it, but their initial response was that I had to have an account with them for 90 days. A Rogers account is of little use in the southern US.

BTW - most of the posts in this thread were old, and talking about unlock codes not being available because the phone was too new. We're 6 months on from that now, so I was wondering if things might have changed.

No that's why I got an unlocked 830 from telus about a 6-7 weeks ago, nothing has changed as far as 3rd party's not being able to unlock it and the only solution is getting a carrier to unlock it and the conditions are the same. If you want to use an 830 on TM or ATT then sell your locked one and get an unlocked one from B&H Photo Their's are RM-985 unlocked and $380. shipped no tax.

No thanks.

I got an unlock code within 1 hour of filling out at&ts form tonight. I am a customer and purchased the phone off contract from the Microsoft store. Very easy process and they do have a non customer option on the site.

Edit: My 830 was att locked

Same situation with me. ATT customer and had no problem unlocking the phone. Just make sure you don't have your ATT card in the 830 when making the request. I did that the first time and my request was rejected. Had to switch the sim back to my iPhone for a day to get the unlock code.

Apparently, this phone is locked to Rogers.
^^^ gordonfink your 830 is locked to Rogers isn't it ?
this is AT&T policy:

Note: AT&T cannot unlock devices from other wireless carriers.
The device must be designed for use on, and locked to, the AT&T wireless network

Yep, mine is Rogers. I am trying to figure out a way to get Rogers to do it.

Only one way to get Rogers to do it and you know what that is...
or try selling it on eBay and then buy one that you can use
Take a loss it might be cheaper than 90 "in jail" on Rogers.

You can buy brand new unlocked RM-985's on eBay for $272.72 free shipping...
Good luck.

Sorry, could you elaborate on why it was denied while the sim was in the 830?

ATT said the phone was not eligible for unlocking even though I had purchased it without contract. Their system saw it on my account and just rejected my request.

Interesting, so you had activated it on ATT already before requesting the unlock?

Thanks much - I have tried one other online source. If that doesn't work out, I'll try the one you mentioned.

Thanks again.

Yes. I had my Att SIM in it before asking for the unlock. That is why it was rejected because I'm still under contract. I had to swap the SIM back into my iPhone and then the request went through.

That's a strange one. They have unlocked all my WP's no problems, 920, 1520, and now 830.

Hi

I'm planning on purchasing an 830 locked to Bell, I'm with Rogers.
