Anyone else contemplating updating to 8.1 via Developer Preview?

Don't want to brick my phone. :) I figure there's about a 1% chance that happens. I'm sure I'll do it - just curious how others felt about it.

No. More like a 0.01% chance, at most. It'll not be any different than a regular OS update.

This quote is from a review of the music and video apps by WPC... "In regards to Xbox Music, it’s been reported that Microsoft is planning on removing the native clients from the Windows Phone 8.1 update, due in late spring 2014, and instead they will be using Store apps. The reason for that is it will allow Microsoft to frequently update the app directly to reflect changes or improvements in the service. That’s opposed to having to wait months for an OS update." Wonder what their definition of frequently might be...have had only 1 update the whole of last year!

Nokia has a recovery tool, I don't think you can permanently brick your phone unless it's a hardware issue. I've used it on a 928 that was dead to the world.

There is the same chance of it happening even if you wait for the carrier version to update. This isn't a beta they are releasing. It is simply called the developer preview because developers can get it in their hands and run on an actual device before the general public does.

This is a Microsoft approved, fully baked release.

I totally get that - I'm a developer for a living (just watched the build keynote yesterday) so I get it's fully baked. I just don't want to brick my two-month old phone and have T-Mobile tell me "sorry" because I was updating to 8.1 before they released it OTA. I can't imagine they would, but you never know. If they did, not sure where I'd come up with the money for a new phone; I own a horse which is a money pit. It makes my daughter smile and keeps her too busy to deal with boys so it's worth the money.

That said, I imagine the minute I see it's a available, I'll jump in and be just fine.

T-Mobile has WiFi calling which is an option on some phones to make calls over WiFi instead of cellular. It's main benefit is where there is WiFi but no or poor cellular signal. I don't know if other carriers do it or if its available in Europe.

Is it an app or ?
