Hey guys, my UK o2 930 doesn't allow me to change my search provider from Bing to google.

I want to change my rom to allow me to do this, I know some of you rocking a 930 can change this, would you mind sharing which country and carrier you're using please?

Bonus points if anyone could provide me with one which is likely to receive update approval fast for when the next update rolls out.

Thanks guys

Yes. Italian Country Variant (at least the Black IT CV, product code 059W0H8) allows you to change the default search provider to goolge or bing. And it allows you to set max data speed to 2G, 3G and 4G (GB CV doesn't allow this either, only 3G and 4G).

I bought my 930 in Belgium. It came with CV BeLux and it HAS Google. I swapped it with Deutsche Telekom's branded version and it ALSO has Google.
Deutsche Telekom has a decent track record on updates. The 1020 had Black available upon launch of the update. The 920 got it a week or two later. So I have no complaints about it (plus, you get an awesome dark-ish grey accent colour.)

Give Bing a chance, the more people who use it, the more it will learn.

Bing outside the US is just horrible. It's not a question of learning, it's a question of Microsoft simply not putting any effort into making it worth the while. The day Microsoft stops the US-first-US-only-US-is-special attitude and starts to develop things according to where their consumers are, people will give Bing a chance.

off topic here
my L930 is a HK variant
am i able to replace the ROM with any other ROM or only specific ones?

You can replace it with any other ROM. However, if you replace it with carrier ROMs, make sure that carrier doesn't simlock the phones.

So basically , you don't want Cortana once it rolls out in the UK over the coming weeks. As a side note, tell me any extras Google has over Bing in Europe.

Does anyone know the product code of the Belgian ROM?
Normally this is pretty easy to figure out -- just look for "BE CV" in a list of product codes.
But in this case, the list is full of "countries" like 8H, 3V, and 7F. I'm guessing Belgium is one of these... obfuscated countries?

For anyone curious, I've managed to answer my own question.
You can figure out which country a ROM is for by mapping a code inside the .FFU file name to the country/region list on this page: dev.windowsphone.com/en-US/OEM/docs/Customization/Registry_values_for_carrier-unlocked_phones
So using NaviFirmPlus, I tried looking at the available files for each of the firmwares listed here: forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/10463101-post39.html

So to answer my own question, 059W1J1 is Belgium (black).

For extra genericness, one could also try worldwide (059W1L3) or Europe (059W0X5).

So I just flashed the “Europe” ROM (059W0X5). Despite my seemingly sound theory, this actually shows up as a “DK-IS” phone in Settings > About.

Oh well, it's still nice and generic. And it has Google search and 2G/3G/4G option (instead of just 3G/4G on the GB CV).

That setting is a ie setting and should be available with any country version

Bing inside the US is horrible IMO.
Many times I've run the exact same search on Bing and Google.
Google always turns up what I'm looking for and much more, Bing, rarely.

Sorry, also does Europe, Italy and BeLux all have internet sharing override over SIM restrictions?

Sorry, I didn't understand your question. I have the italian rom and I can check it for you. Please explain better your question.
