Hey everyone,

I jumped on the leaked update files for the 8.1 update. All went well aside from the home button driver, which no longer appears to work. In laymen's terms: the home button does not work after the update. It will probably take a firmware update to fix this problem.

Otherwise the new features are great, especially if you use your RT with a Type/Touch cover.

Anyone else tried the upgrade?

I update my surface rt but my home button still working..and after the update my rt become a bit faster than before..

I updated mine as well and haven't seen any issues with the home button. It is definitely a bit faster throughout.

My Surface RT is infinitely faster. Although, I still have an issue with a flickering screen. It's not what you think though. Allow me to explain:

I edited the registry on my tablet to increase touch responsiveness of the screen. I lowered the latency and sample time to its lowest values and rebooted my Surface. Ever since that, every time I boot up and sign in for the first time, the screen flashes black for half a second. This was the case when I did it on W8.1 as well as 8. However, strangely, this was not brought up as a side effect on the thread I found the registry edit. I tried changing it back to its default values, but it still does that. This makes me unsure of whether the registry edit I performed is the culprit.

Another issue I have - and I'm sure there's a setting for this, but I can't find it - my Surface always goes to the desktop everytime I close the last app. Dunno why.

I updated my desktop but i'm waiting for the official through windows update for my surface. surface is too finicky and I suspect there will be changes before its actually pushed out. RTM is the new final release candidate.

Just updated a few hours ago. No appreciable difference in performance. I had previously applied the various performance tweaks found around here so maybe I was already at optimal performance.

Which "performance tweaks" are you referring to?

I did a factory today and it still wasn't working after that until a few minutes ago when it randomly started working again. I'm going to try the update again now. I guess it must have just been a fluke.

I did the update yesterday and have been using the Surface today for note taking at a presentation. It dropped its WiFi at one point (but that could well have been the WiFi, not the Surface).
It seems possibly a little faster at general stuff. And there's a new key at the bottom left of the PIN sign-on screen that I haven't worked out what is for yet. And intrigued to see the top menu bar and red-cross-to-close-app is now present on Modern apps. I guess people were desperate to ensure they could close an app. Personally, I never bother.

May I request one of you with Surface 2 to share the PC Benchmark results?

Here's what I have in my list for now-
