I want to get a 24W surface charger for my SP2 since I've heard 24w is still sufficient (will just charge slower) and its smaller/lighter (better for portable use).

But I was wondering, is there any way to know which 24W charger you're really buying? I know MS recently redesigned the 24W charger to have a ring of light at the Surface end of the plug, rather than just a dot.

It really is just a cosmetic thing, but if I'm paying $40 for a new charger, I might as well try to get the one I really want :P

Microsoft Store's customer service told me theres no way for them to tell, as the old and new chargers appear to still have the same SKU.

Has anyone purchased a 24W charger recently and got the new design?

I purchased an extra 24 watt charger when I ordered the Surface 2 from MS website. I got the older version - which didn't surprise me.

): Not what I was hoping to hear, but not surprising either.
I guess MS probably still has a stockpile of the old ones.. considering how much they overestimated demand with the launch of the first tablets.
