I've been to the Apple store in London a few times...the staff are really pompous, arrogant and unhelpful

And a couple of the "geniuses" I spoke to are total retards

Lol I think most of them just automatically assume that you're already an "iOS lover" when walking into the store so half of the job is already taken care of :D But some of them are friendly enough. Obviously they value their platform above all else so the pompous and arrogant bit probably stems from that

This is an interesting story. It also goes to show you that they can't always expect for people to know what to do when their devices are having issues. At least Microsoft tells you to backup your data before sending it in.

This story really doesn't surprise me...

Pensioner successfully sues Apple for wiping iPhone: ?I did this for the common man?

"Sux"? "Retards"? What I would say "sucks" is your attitude, not Apple. Okay, you've had a bad experience or two, so be mature and accept that ALL companies make mistakes - they're only human, after all - then deal with it and put it behind you with good grace. From your manner it sounds like I'm talking to a 14 year old, and if that's the case then you've probably very little life experience of how to deal with challenging situations; you learn wisdom with age, don't take this bad experience to heart my friend. If you're NOT 14, and a grown man, well... well I'd say use a little more discernment and discretion in your approach toward the challenges of life, because if THIS annoys you, life's REAL challenges are going to beat you over the head unless you wise up a great deal.

PS: Propagating a story from "The Sun" - the most brightly coloured toilet paper in the world, is laughable; do you think they don't have an agenda?

It CLEARLY says to backup your device before service:

I still believe Apple's customer service to be excellent overall, but still imperfect like everyone's. We've seen horror stories from Microsoft, HP, and its obvious nobody has perfected it. :/

Except for Comcast, they might have perfected the implementation of imperfect customer service.

Maybe the op has had poor luck at an Apple store, not me. I have been to 4 different Apple stores in my home area and have always been treated quite well by the staff. Apple stores get very high grades from me!! C'mon,!5 years of pictures and contacts on his cell phone and not backed up in any fashion? It's sad his info was lost, but he is a knot head.
