App development is something completely different then a app designer.
Just like a housearchitect and a builder.
Some developers are lousy designers and vv
There is no uniform or unity.
Older apps who are written for the "old standard" of 4" looks often blowen up or stretched out to fit the larger size phones.
Same as the older apps on android, who where written for the 3.5" inch devices.
If Apple going to follow the mainstream with bigger devices they will probably heading for the same problem.
Older apps abandend by there developers are not getting updated to fit the larger screens.
Next to that, the most app desingers on the windows platform trying to keep the minimalistic or flat looks of Wp in there apps.
I dont know how many buttons, bars and icons i have drawn over the years.
I know from experience that if you use the looks and feels of a android app (a specialy the looks ),
in a wp app you get the typicaly ieuw look.it just dont blend in in the rest of the interface.
Vice verca its exactly the same.
You have the one who thinks of a app, but cant write code.....his idea goes to a developer
The problems a developer or a designer can face is how to translate thoughts in to reality.......
I tel you a short story of my problems to give you a idea.
A long time ago i came up with a app idea..........before the smartphones where mainstream so the term app
is somewhat out of context.
I build it as a simple excel spreadsheet, and it worked.
Lateron the pda's came and right after that the first WM smartphones.
So i had to rewrite this spreadsheet to maintain his function, but i had to let go of the looks in order to let it work.
Not long after that, the android phones became common good.
But Droid cant handle excelsheets because of the macro's.
So i needed to rewrite the darn thing in to a code i could not comprehence.
And to learn code for just one little idea ....no thanks, i learned some basic tricks but thats all.
So i needed a developer, and where do you find one, yep on the user platforms like XDA and WPCentral.
But that just one hump to take, eventually i found one.
Now i had to translate my idea on a "piece of paper" in the form of private messages in a language that isnt my own.
Two humps further.
That guy or girl has to understand exactly what you mean, how it works and how its going to look.
So its very basic at first.
Its all happend in spare time so it takes a while before you see results.
Your are depending on the developers skills,
can he write the code to let it function and can he write the code to give it the looks. ( two seperate things ).
Becouse of the ongoing development of the operatingsystem, things changes.
So you have to make some compromizes.
Do you want to have a "looker" that crashes ore have the half of the functionality, or keep it basic and trustworthy.
Finaly when its ready........you can throw it in the store, but .........
Who's app is it, is it the developer or is it the one who thought or came up with it, minor details but stil.
The app is stil under construction...........and private ;-)
But thats just one platform, in this case its droid.
But i whanted it on WP also, otherwhise i have no use for it for myself.
So i search again for a developer ( Droid developers are not necessarily WP developers, differand code ).
The whole thing started all over again.
I finaly found a developer here on wpc and he did a good job.
But he also chose for the minimalistic looks of WP, thats the choice i thinks its for the developer.
The only thing i can do is agree or disagree, but its stil teamwork between ( and thats the beauty of this all ) people who not even met each other before, completely strangers who doesnt even speak the same languages and stil they working to gether over a long distance ( try that 15 years ago ;-) )
Because of that and to the love of there and our hobby i don't want to push to mutch of the way it looks.
Its a hell better then it was before.
The WP app is finished the only thing is now is the Droid app, but its comming its not realy perfect but still.
There where some new ideas on there way, so they had to be intergrated in the existing appcode.
So taking this in the back of my head, i don't complain when a certain app is "out of sync".
Things are diferant when you talking about the corporated professional appbuilders who are doing it for a living.
So you see, its not something what you just pul out your sleeve in five minutes.
