external microphones supported in windows 8.1

Can you connect an external microphone to a windows 8.1 phone for use in apps such as the sound recorder which I use to record meetings/lectures/discussions etc?

I believe you can connect Bluetooth microphones to the phone.

The way I would approach it however is to test different ones out prior to purchase to make sure it works with WP and the app.
