Are people stupid or is MS afraid

So much hate. Simmer down people. Clearly, majority doesn't want the x to be removed.
Okay.
How about making the x transparent, do that atleast it looks better. You've got to agree, that black x does make the multitasking look ugly. So a transparent x wouldn't look, better?
And for the Visually impaired the x can turn black again, maybe bigger.
What say?

The OP wants to rid it of the X... Oh well, not a problem for me, since I will be returning to Android and keep my 1520 in my drawer till the companies I need the WP app for finally creates one... And turning on and off the feature would only make it more confusing and make it a bigger file. But so be it, maybe someday we can load the OS on the SD card... Wait, if I remember right the HTC 7 Pro did have it on a SD card. (You have to take it apart to change it to a bigger card, as it wasn't meant to be user changeable, but our friends at XDA made that easy) LOL

Kudos to those of you who thought about sight-impaired users and others who may have limited abilities or experience.

When I'm using my phone with dirty fingers I'd rather mess it up with a single tap than a long filthy swipe.

Really? Having an option is a problem for you? Then maybe you WOULD be happy going back to android. Get outta here.

I don't know where you got that I had a problem with it being a choice, but I highly doubt MS will write it in their code. The OP stated that we must be stupid for not knowing you can slide it down to rid yourself of it. I in turn interdict what he states. I am not really stupid because I know you can slide it down, but prefer to use the X. WP has enough problems getting acceptance into the industry. Also MS is still thought of the most bloated OS in the world, even though people are confusing W8 with WP8. (If you don't believe W8 is bloated, as anyone who owns a 32GB W8 tab.) So they made WP8 slim and trim. But still consumes a lot of space, ask anyone who only has a 8GB or 16GB WP. Anyone ever figure out why MS is breaking up the WP to apps? So you can save space, and other OEM's don't have to include costly space. As far as Android is concern, I rather have WP any day. But there are apps that Android has that WP doesn't. I rather have WP, but there is NO OTHER WP APP THAT DOES THE SAME. I know, I tried them all, I paid for apps that didn't have trials, and paid for apps that did have trials but was gimped. Oooo there is that word I so hated. It's the word a lot of folks who are smarter call my phone since it doesn't have Qi charging. Well, I have decided my phone is gimped, but not because it doesn't have Qi, but because it can't sync with my checkbook (Quicken) or the fact I would have to change banks to get the picture to deposit feature on my banks Android or iOS app. Good luck with the choices....

No wrongs, I am Stupid, I like the X a lot better than the swipe feature. If they get rid of the X I will be pissed and probably start a post that states

Is MS Stupid?

As to why they got rid of a feature that took no screen space and maybe a nano-byte of code to leave it in, just because someone didn't like it. I am on a WP because I get to choose what I want. I am switching back android as soon as my M8 comes in. But that has to do with apps that I want and need that I don't want to play run around with.

And what about this sentence?

Is MS trying to please everyone and keeping things like that around, or are people so stupid that they dont get how to do things by swiping?

So where do you think I got the idea that you are calling people like me Stupid?

Oh BTW, there is a ' in don't... I didn't catch it, because I am Stupid, that is why I have a spell checker running.. LoL

So, I came to the conclusion that next to you, I am Stupid. And since you believe that without walking a foot in other peoples shoes, it means you have a God Complex. Because notice not once did I ever think or say you was stupid. Because quite frankly I don't know you, nor do I care.

After reading this I actually think you are an *****....

The whole stupidity reference didnt have anything to do with people liking or using the X.

Will see will the X's go later, I think they probably will, but who knows.

Well there you go, at least I am not a liar. You will believe what you want, no matter what people tell you. Good luck with that. Have a nice day.

Why you are still here? I wasnt talking you, I really dont care how you close your apps. That wasnt the point here.

The X helps with discoverability. Gestures are great and much more efficient than cluttering the UI with more elements. BUT they lack one key ingredient for usability, discoverability. In this case, the Xs follow existing UI patterns (tabs in IE), so they are fine where they are and help with discoverability.

Yup, it wasn't until I read this thread did I realize you could swipe those app instances away. I've always pushed the X that I could see.

P.S. Apparently I am stupid per the OP. Back when I was young I used to test anywhere from 109 to 129, usually that's not stupid. Oh well....

This whole argument is silly. There's a reason for both. Nothing to do with anyone being stupid. With most using ios or android. When someone picks up a device and plays with it the device should be natural and easy to use, hence the x. If they get the device having other methods to do the same thing allows them to learn the os and choose their preference. One shouldn't have to read a manual or look in forums to be able to pick up a device and use its basic features. Having to do so would slow adoption if the platform. Especially considering, as we already know carrier salesmen are unlikely to help out. If anything they will use the opportunatey to try and switch the customer to ios or android.
