I have a dell laptop that came with a touchscreen. I never use it on purpose and since you cannot just go into the settings and disable it either I occasionally use it by accident when I don't mean to.
Check the BIOS / UEFI. I know at least on my XPS 13 9370 you can disable the touchscreen there (I believe there was a Display menu on the left.

, you should be able to deactivate it in the Windows devices manager (under human interface devices I believe). I did that with my dell venue 2-1 after the touchscreen broke and touch went living a crazy live on itself.

Thanks for all the great replies.

I would have been using a Surface Pro now, if I could find one without the big, fat lightbleeding bar at the bottom of the screen. All units I have seen have it.

Now considering a base SB2 or a Surface Laptop, really.

so here is a question, what if you had a traditional laptop? Would you use the touch screen?

I am looking at ordering a Thinkpad T480, but contemplating whether the touch screen is really needed.

The touchscreen on a laptop is completely useless tbh... I hardly ever use it being a mouse user.

Of course they can be times and scenarios where you need it, but having that keyboard and touchpad kinda makes up for it if you ask me, if I wanted a touchscreen I would've gone for a tablet for sure...

, I use touchscreen on my laptop quite a bit but almost never use the 360 degree hinge modes (since the laptop 2 kg), so I would say yes but obviously it differs per person (also I use a stylus sometimes). Touchscreen is especially handy when you need to quickly sketch/write something or draw (e.g. in Office or in artist programs). Writing on a non-flat screen can be difficult though, therefore I only use it for quick notes or sketches.

Bought a Windows 8 laptop with a touchscreen all the way back in 2012, and I can count on one hand the number of times I've used the touchscreen.
