AT&T 950 vs Microsoft 950

I quickly realized my mistake after I bought my 950 from ATT. 1) Microsoft's is unlocked 2) Microsoft's gets all the updates faster (firmware) 3) Microsoft's is dual sim (not that I need that). So when I broke my AT&T 950's screen so severely I could not read emails - I went to the Microsoft store to buy a replacement (even though I hear ATT's 950 is reduced to $300, vs $399 at the Microsoft store). What I was very surprised at is how much longer the Microsoft 950''s battery life is!!!! I even forgot to plug it in one night and it lasted the whole next day. This would be unheard of with my AT&T 950. Now to be fair, I have not compared firmware versions - but wow - what a difference!!
Greg

ps.. just checked the Microsoft firmware and it's 01078.00053.16236.35005 and i'm not sure what my old AT&T 950 was running.

If it wasn't for forking over the full $599 all at once I would have gone with the MS unlocked version as well. Now that MS has reduced the price to $299 I know what I would have done had they released it at that price originally.

Has anyone gotten the Anniversary Update on their AT&T 950s yet? I'm still on 10.0.10586.545. Firmware: 01078.00038.16025.39033

I bought my 950 directly from Microsoft last week and checked last night and saw I had the update available and got it installed. And I am on AT&T.

I just got my ATT 950 yesterday. When I checked for updates, I got the AU 10.0.14393 but I did not get a firmware update. Still on firmware 01078.00038.16026.39033.

Sadly firmware is all on At&t.

My gf has yet to receive the anniversary update for her ATT 950. What I am really hoping is that they release the firmware soon.

Me too. It's a bit disappointing that my new high end 950 is less stable and less reliable than my old low-end 640.

I'm checking Settings>Update&Security>Phone update - and brand new AT&T 950 keeps saying "Your device is up to date."

My system does not have AU - but still, 10.0.10586.545

How are you guys getting the AU. Did you download the Windows Insider app to get around AT&T's foot dragging on the OS update?

The release yesterday was for carrier-free devices only. Carrier-branded is expected in another week or two. If you want it earlier, join insider and select release preview ring.

That will get you the OS but not firmware. When that is released is anyone's guess.

Thanks PepperdoNet.

Is there a disadvantage to getting Anniversary using Insider vs. waiting for carrier release? Would leapfrogging AT&T on AU somehow leave the handset out when the firmware is finally distributed to AT&T handsets?

No, you will still get firmware when it drops.
