AT&T improves off-contract pricing

I feel the strategy is just like your current avatar, at&t being the pig and T being the bloke.

I wouldn't call it cheap but it's a step in the right direction. I've decided that I'm done with carrier contracts, so it's good to hear that they are finally throwing a bone to people like me.

Same here. With low-mid range phones being nearly as capable as the high end stuff, buying a subsidized phone just seems like a ripoff.

I agree that its a step in the right direction. It makes their new get-a-new-phone-when-you-want plan seem even more like a ripoff.

These carriers all make me sick. I am with AT&T. I currently have 4 lines sharing 10 GB of data. It costs 240 a month and that includes the discount I get from work. Now this will knock 20 bucks off the data price but add 10 bucks to each line. So I will now be paying 20 bucks more a month. In fact I could drop down 2 plan levels to the 6 GB plan and still not save any money because the price per line will go up. Pathetic.

Verge talked a bit about that, how people on the 6GB plan and higher actually have to pay more thanks to this. I have two phones on the 1GB plan and this will actually save me nearly 30 bucks a month. And since getting my tablet, data usage on my phone has dropped dramatically. In the 10 days since my data reset I've used 56MBs between two phones. Movies, music, downloads, everything runs through my S2 now. I might actually drop down to the 300MB plan.

Meh, still a bad deal for $86/mo after taxes with T-mobile I get unlimited talk, text and data 2.5GB of hotspot and unlimited international data. They still got quite a ways to go if they want to match that deal.

...and a worse network.

T-Mo has a ways to go if they want to match AT&T's coverage.

Trade offs for everything.
