I just now found out the AT&T Lumia 830 got an official update to W10M. I know when W10M came to all the RM-984 and RM-985 830's, that there were issues where the main camera would be broken and even a reset to 8.1 wouldn't fix it, like W10M caused a hardware fault. Have there been any issues like that on the RM-983 and it's official W10M update?

My 830 isn't my main phone any more, so I'm considering upgrading just out of curiosity. I really wish I could image my phone before, so I could restore it if I don't like W10M. (I've still got a number of apps that are no longer on the store, like Lumia Storage Check). I'm also concerned that the camera quality (if it doesn't get bricked) would suffer, and that I'd lose features like app glance screen (like having weather on my glance screen).

I've never heard of that camera upgrade issues frankly, and I've put the preview on a 983 and 985 without issue if that makes you feel better. I think this can be safely be filed away as "possible but highly unlikely" - as in, I would probably have no trouble upgrading an 830 to 10 even if it were my daily driver if the only factor was that risk.

Capture reliability on 10 does suffer (see: Saving...) and quality isn't as great (subjective!) and of course you know about the loss of Glance functionality. 10 in general isn't as bulletproof as 8.1 was but eh... some get by fine.

The issues you mention were all caused by W10M Insider Preview versions installed on L830. Have not heard of any issues like that with any production versions so far...
