AT&T/Microsoft need to promote the hell out of this phone!

I honestly believe Microsoft could have a hit on their hands with the Lumia 830.

It has the looks, the size, and the image to be a true big seller. Raw "horsepower" aside ... (most people won't notice this isn't running a 100ghz processor yaknow because WP is so smooth).

I firmly believe, if MS & AT&T promote this thing like crazy it could be one of the best selling WP phones to date.

I hope they do

Not just promote, but price appropriately. Pricing equal to what the 920 cost 2 years ago is a major failure.

Hello,

Just go to your local Best Buy to see the failure of marketing. Only one Windows Phone (Nokia) on display. Oh and it is all the way in the back of the store. Nowhere on display up front along with the Surface and laptops.

I agree. It's a very nice phone. I compared the 830 to the htc m8 a at the windows store and the 830 blew the m8 away imo. The local microsoft store had a very nice display of the 830 in the front of the store

There was some promotion at my store, but I really think it would be cool if they advertised it in store by putting them on one of those glowing wireless chargers. That would definitely get people's attention.

I agree, this phone has all of the pieces to become a very nice selling device. I played around with one at a Microsoft Kiosk. I have to wait to get funds together since I am buying outright no contract, but it is a really nice phone.

I agree with what has been said. When you walk into Best Buy, Windows is plastered everywhere. The Surface has monolithic signs. They need to do the same with WP and it will stand a fighting chance

When I picked mine up the AT&T store i went to had the 830 on display front and center of the store. Right next to it was the 1520. The row of phones also included a Note 4 and an iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

The store I went to definitely had the 830 front and center right next to the big boys.

They should have a place for the Windows phones separate from the phone center with staff trained to understand them. Have them by the PCs. More similar to Apple center for selling PCs.

Hell, I will volunteer to wear a Microsoft shirt and stand around in Best Buy doing this on my spare time lol

Hello,

Heck, in Best Buy, Apple and Samsung has displays for their phones side by side with their tablets/laptops.

Again, Microsoft has a big presence with a section in Best Buy dedicated to them. Surface and laptops have their nice displays but no phones.

I really don't know why it is like this. I doubt Microsoft is blind. Maybe there is politics or contractual stuff behind the scenes with Best Buy?

There is a old saying, You can't buy what you can't see. I see some people saying they have tried out the 830 at a Microsoft store. But the phone is not on the Microsoft Store web site and they told me (throught chat) they have no idea when they will be getting it. Not good.

I picked mine up Saturday evening and coming from a Lumia 920, 520, 925, and now the Lumia 830 I can say I'm pleasantly pleased. It may not have the horsepower to be a Flagship Device, but it does certainly feel and handle like one. Granted I never game on any of my phones, past iPhones included. Nevertheless, It feels wonderful and just needs a case for protection since I'm on AT&T Next's program so I really don't want to drop it. Side note, it came with an included Fitbit Flex as part of a promotional. Now, I have no use for such a device so immediately sold it on eBay the follow evening for $70 bringing the total cost of the Lumia 830 down to a more reasonable ~$380 - $400.

Great phone, no regrets! I'll be very happy for the next year using it.

....and the Apple and Samsung exclusive areas in BB have just sent their PC sales skyrocketing. Yes, that was meant as sarcasm. People go to the Samsung and Apple areas to buy what they were already buying - IPads and Galaxy stuff. They haven't budged their market share on other products at all.

However, a LOT of people go into Best Buy to buy a PC - more than those going to buy a Galaxy or iPad - so having phones on display by the PCs is a great way to let people learn Windows phones even exist, and how they integrate with the PCs they're buying.

Where is MS marketing these days? They are promoting the hell out of Surface & Xbox - spending MILLIONS (nearing in on BILLIONS) to make it a success. Why not with Windows Phone?

Let's see some clever advertising, make a deal with the NHL to make it the "official phone" .... do something...

The 830 had an almost quiet release in India. Which is sad, because this device is just perfect for people who are looking for something new, something better and something extra from their mobiles and are willing to shell out a bit more. Microsoft isn't just doing enough to push this forward. Even during the Diwali festival, they only gave cash-back offers on the 530 and 630. A discount on the 830 would have done wonders for its sales.

I have a theory. They need a category in which they are not the dominant player. Therefore they avoid anti-trust allegations. Losing anti-trust battles in Europe cost them BILLIONS. They dominate in desktop OS. They are one of two dominant players in home console gaming. But with One Windows coming, if they don't dominate in small screens then the trustbusters stay away.
