ATT will unlock off-contract Lumia 1020?

I've tried lots of variations on the form and haven't had any luck getting my full price 1020 unlocked either. I'll keep an eye on the form and keep submitting it. I'm going overseas in a couple of weeks and would have loved to have local SIM service while over there. Anyone else had any luck?

just got an email response from att said they the phone is not eligible for unlocking.. what a total bs. they lied to me with confidence when I specifically asked them multiple times that if I buy it off-contract and paid full price and even mentioned it's Lumia 1020, they said yes. Now after I bought the phone and they say no. wtf. Anyways.. Me too, I'll be traveling, so I would hate to carry 2 phones. Must get the phone unlocked grrrr.

has anyone tried .safeunlockcode.com? they seen to claim to be able to unlock it for cheap only 12 bucks.. if anyone has tried unlocking it using a 3rd party service, please keep us updated. thanks.

The phone will not be unlockable for about 3 months (that's the exclusive period). HOWEVER, due to a new law passed by US Senate, carriers can refuse the unlock if they wish. So whether or not they will unlock it, we'll be able to find out in about 3 months from release date.
Do not mistaken it with a unlocked 1020s from Negri or Expansys. They sell international versions that come unlocked, but you will not be able to get AT&T's LTE on international phones because they do not support AT&T's LTE chip.

DO NOT bother with unlocking services online or on ebay. You will end up waiting 5 days for a refund. They won't unlock them because AT&T is the only one who holds the unlocking codes. And don't listen to AT&T reps, they don't know anything. They are just regular "clueless" consumers who work for AT&T from home and just follow the instructions posted in their manuals.

I am pretty much in the same boat, asked 5 individuals at 4 different AT&T stores. Four of them immediately assured me yes I would be able to get the 1020 unlocked as I am paying outright for the phone, the 5th asked one of the "suits" who said "yes". I have 10 more days to get unlocked or this 1020 is going back and I'll have to go with the 920/925

I got a response from safeunlockcode.com and they said that they can't unlock the 1020 as of yet :-(

Mr P

Just an update, spoke with AT&T customer service who gave me a 20 digit pin to unlock when placing a new (non-AT&T) sim in the 1020. I explained to them that I bought the 1020 and was very explicit that I would need to use out of country, as I was traveling in less than 1 month. If you get push back ask for the retention department, especially if you are within the 14 day period.

Did it work and did the 1020 accept the other SIM?

I'm I'm the Uk. I have a 1020 but its locked.... Can anyone help me get it unlocked? I am not a AT&T customer so I can't exactly call them!

Call their customer Service Number.. you don't have to be a current AT&T customer in order to get an unlock code

General Eligibility Requirements for Unlocking All AT&T Mobile Devices
AT&T will unlock an AT&T Mobile Device under the following circumstances:
The person requesting the unlock must be one of the following:
a current AT&T customer a former AT&T customer who can provide the phone number or account number for the account The AT&T Mobile Device was designed for use on AT&T's network. The AT&T Mobile Device has not been reported lost or stolen.

This does not guarantee that they will unlock it, however you are not required to be an active AT&T customer to request an unlock

I am not a att customer either (bought the phone off-contract), I even told the rep that when I called. Im using tmobile, after unlock, voice and 4g(USA) data both work just fine.

I take it that you don't have the wifi calling feature working, correct?

Badass! Are you an AT&T customer or did you purchase the phone full price?

Also, are you in a refarmed area, because you are only on Edge?

Not an AT&T customer, I bought it outright. I called AT&T told them I bought it from the store off contract and the lady asked for the IMEI and then gave me the code.
