Automatic Media Message Download

Is there any way to turn off automatic downloading/receiving of a picture/video message?
Tired of getting pictures/videos I don't want or need to see from friends.. Looked through the message settings and I see no options there. I've only ever seen the "Download" option when I have horrible service at the time.

I have the issue in reverse, I want to get the picture, but did not want to leave mobile internet on all the time.
