Back button issue?

I've noticed that when I'm in the messaging app, if I hit the back button it won't take me back to my threads. The screen will clear and show me the same thread, and I'll have to hit the back-button several times to get out. I think it might be correlated to the number of messages I've received from the person or how many times I opened the app from the lockscreen. Does anyone else have this same problem? I came from Android and it didn't do that, so I am wondering if this is a Windows Phone thing, or a glitch or something. I'm running WP 8.1 with the latest update.

I tried that and its normal for me.
