Well taken
I somehow managed to miss W7 (I was aware or it, just never had it on my stuff), I had XP on my laptop, then went to 8.1 (I had to walk over the minefield that was 8 to get there at times).
I have to say I love 10, on my desktop I have it in desktop mode all the time, on my Surface Pro 3 and Stream I have it in tablet mode and it works like a dream, and when I go into my lads room (He has a laptop and gaming PC still on 8.1) it looks so old fashioned already.
I loved the Metro look, it was the tiles on my wife's WP that kept me from Ubuntu or Mint, I admit I was shocked when I first discovered that you couldn't change the colour of the tiles in 8/8.1 but even then I got over it and ended up liking it a lot and not really understanding why the luddites still on 7 and older stuff couldn't get there heads around 8.1.
But for me 10 is fantastic, I admit I have probably been lucky and I am not a massive app downloader so my devices were almost all very clean machines before the upgrades.
I do see what you mean about stability in recent years, in general I think MS have been pretty good, since XP (You can forget Vista) it's only really been 7 and then 8/8.1 and in 10 with a rolling update program you can effectively say four major OS changes in 15 odd years, and although I really took to 8.1 I can see why it was a bit out on a limb for a lot of users, but the thinking MS brought to the party with it hasn't been lost and will help 10 grow, but I reckon in the future OS usage for most PC's on most people or businesses desktops will have been XP-7-10 with Vista and 8/8.1 having been side shows (Although with important developments in both).
I think MS made some big mistakes brought on by panic when they realised they could easily become irrelevant in the changing mobile computing world, but in with those mistakes there were some fantastic developments and hopefully with 10 they have come up with a real winner that has joined up many of those good things and dropped a few of the mistakes (Unfortunately some people got a bit stung on the way with WP 7 and RT ending up as dead ends).
So come on MS, get Skype sorted for mobile devices, get OneDrive sorted so place holders work again (We ain't all stupid), get a few more of the bugs sorted and you (And through that the rest of us) should have a product that can serve for a good few years and put MS firmly at the center of computing/entertainment/life and more for years to come. And I reckon that will be true in the phone/mobile and the Internet of Things world as well.
And I hope so cause I really hate Alpahabet and Apple, one for rip of prices and the other for being far too nosy.
Sorry for the ramble
