Hi,

I know my question might seem silly but what is the main difference between background tasks and push notifications. Take Whatsapp for example. I block it in background tasks, but push notifications still work. How about weather apps, will live tiles update if they are (weather apps) blocked in background tasks?

Thanks a lot for your help. It would be also good to know why push notifications are less reliable on WP than on other system.

Once again, thanks for your replies.

Unfortunately since I don't know the other systems, either how reliable they are or how they work, I can't help you there...

On apps such as 6tag you need to have background tasks on to get your toasts, other apps like Twitter and Facebook you do not.

That's because 6tag does not use push notifications to display toast messages. 6tag instead runs a background task every 30 minutes to poll the server for new snaps
