Banking apps; Windows Phone's real Achilles heel (in the UK at least)

Glad to see Santander are developing an app.

All well and good banks saying they're monitoring etc bla bla but with payment solutions like PayM now being thrust at us, it's not on that WP users should not be able take advantage of these banking methods. This is an industry-wide payment solution so they should act accordingly and provide this service to EVERY user. Why should our choice of tech now be limiting our banking options. It's ridiculous.

I've said this before... I won't change my phone (WP) because a company doesn't provide an app for it, but I will start shopping / banking with those that do.

I agree with that.
I have stopped using Amazon for all purchases as they can't be bothered with windows of any description. As for the banks mine the nationwide emailed me and told me they have no intention of making an app for WP. They are concentrating on IOS and android as they're is more customer base.
So when the day comes that I need a banking app to carry out a transaction I will find another bank.

My vote goes to NatWest and Barclays; both have got an excellent app for Windows Phone.

NatWest hasn't signed up to PayM yet; they will later this year at which point I'm sure they'll update their WP app accordingly. They already have an excellent 'pay your contacts' feature, which should be easy for them to link to the PayM service.

Barclays has signed up to PayM already, but they are using their 'PingIt' service to link into it. They don't have a PingIt app for WP yet, but confirmed they are working on one.

I'm fed up with for banks like HSBC and First Direct, who after ignoring WP for ages are now saying they are working on an app but are unwilling to share any timescales. So much for customer service.

Doesn't the bank you use have a mobile website??
Bank of Montreal finally came out with one and quite honestly it is better than an app.

Santander do have a mobile website which allows customers to carry out a wide range of tasks but I would love to have a dedicated app which I could use to do the same tasks without having to open a browser on my phone.

Santander have been developing an app for well over a year now but no idea on a release date which is incredibly frustrating.

Update from Santander:
Thank you for your email.

We appreciate all your comments and are continuously looking to improve the site for the benefit of our customers.

Regrettably, at the moment we are not planning to introduce an App for the Windows Phone 8.

Well, there goes another nail into the WP coffin.

I'm fine with the browser for online banking. An app would be easier for sure but don't know if you get all the functionality of the desktop site. The mobile site for my bank (CIBC Canada) sucks compared to the full desktop site. Super stripped down. I always switch it to desktop mode before logging in. Makes it a lot easier if the phones screen is large like my 930s 5" screen. But banking apps would definitely be a plus.

Perhaps I spoke too soon???

Had a telephone call from Santander the other day to apologise for the misinformation regarding WP app development. They added a credit to my account as a gesture to apologise and assured me that they are developing a WP compatible app but they're unable to give a date when it will be completed.

Whether this is just an attempt to stop me from sending them regular emails or a genuine response remains to be seen but the credit was a nice touch.

Watch this space....
