Battery conservation

I got my wife a 710 but coming from a BB she's a bit disappointed in battery time. Reviews I read before purchase were giving kudos to the battery time so I'm a bit perplexed. What are the things you do to conserve battery? I've already turned off the GPS as she rarely uses it. What else can be done?
