NOT battery drain.... You need to learn to use your phone correctly.

Search these forums for tips on extending battery life....

No, not really. Im sure there are things that help, but that doesn't mean that 8.1 doesn't cause battery drain. I turned off NFC, turned down the brightness, and turned off Bluetooth but my battery drains a lot faster than it ever did. Im not streaming anything. I don't even have an app open right now. I talked on it for like 3 minutes this morning. It goes down almost 10% per hour.

Rogue apps, user's pattern of use. It's not the OS that causes 'battery drain'. I have owned WP devices since WP7 and have yet to have battery drain on any of them.
Use and charge your phone for a week or so and then see if the battery is better. It usually will be.

Failing that: Hard reset...

Kind of piggybacking here: For my Nokia 1520, I noticed that getting stuck in resuming issue occasionally when on the 8.1 DP. Once the official update, with the accompanying Cyan firmware updates, was installed, the battery life returned to what is reasonable for a 1520. I'm getting pretty much a day and a half of life out of the battery.

So if you're still on the DP without a manufacturer's firmware update, this could be a portion of the cause. But definitely check your apps to see what is running in the background.

I haven't used my phone that much today. There are no apps open and I close them regularly. I have a WP7 phone and the battery was much better about that.

While I don't know for certain if it is the case here, the OS can be responsible for battery drain. Yes I could turn off every single setting until I need it, but that's just annoying. Turning off Bluetooth is fine, but turning off Connect with Xbox, Wifi searching, Location service, and all of these other features that might cause battery drain? That's just annoying. I don't want to keep switching these settings.

Location won't cause battery drain. Wi-Fi uses less battery than mobile signal.
All the other features XBox etc use very little battery. Turn off NFC which can drain battery.

If you use Whatsapp, FB Messenger, Vine or any other social networking apps. they WILL cause battery drain. Most battery drain is down to badly written apps or inefficient processes.
Turning off in-built OS functions will not save that much battery.
Try reinstalling the OS and DO NOT restore from a backup. Start fresh. As I explained any battery issues should calm down in a week or so as the system calibrates the minimum and maximum battery values.

If you make a lot of phone calls, expect battery drain. Phone signal is the main culprit as it has to continually scan for a phone signal.
Always use Wi-Fi for data connections....

I am basing Xbox, wifi, and location services on an old 2012 Nokia post that is linked in one of the stickies on this forum. It is all about saving battery life. Im sure they don't drain that much, but I don't really have much else on.

I don't use Facebook and haven't used Whatsapp yet. Im not really in to social media. I might try reinstalling the OS if this continues.

I've noticed more battery drain by as much as 10% difference. I use Waze daily going to work and I arrived at work at 60% battery life a couple days ago. Usually its about 75%..
