If you were on the Release Preview (or even just the regular updates for most capable phones in the US), you probably already have 494, assuming your phone hasn't gone to the Anniversary build (or it can't, because it's too old).

If you're already upgraded to Redstone (Anniversary), then I really don't know. There are probably ROMs over on XDA or similar, but you have to be really careful, when it comes to just grabbing these, for a whole variety of reasons (if you don't know why, then they're probably not a good bet, there are complexities AND other risks).

did not notice much if any battery improvement. Missing my 1520 on 8.1 days... phone would last 2 days which is impossible now with the 950xl

My 950XL took a GIANT turn for the worse yesterday (last night).

It seemed to be draining faster, mostly the "Start" screen and my "Account" settings yesterday. Then, last night, I had an 86->8% drain, in about 7 hours, something I'd never seen before, and with the battery-saver feature ON.
All the processing for the 6 hour window is listed as foreground, although the phone was in standby, the whole time, so anything processing should've been background only.
Clearly, the battery-meter is pretty hosed in 14393.5, and there's something really wrong with some of the background-settings too, and probably some key apps, possibly the Start screen, and the Accounts apps, from the looks of it....

Thanks for this thread. I love my 950XL. I've owned it since April and the only issue I had with it was battery life. I use the phone for work and personal use and it did fine for work, easily lasting through the day. On weekends and evenings a couple of games I enjoy would suck down the battery meter significantly with just 10 minutes or so of play. It was amazing to watch, but never enough to drive me to dislike the XL because of its good performance during regular use, its stellar camera and overall great feel and user experience. I use Continuum at times as well.

I installed the Anniversary Update when it was available and played around with the new features Zac Bowden showed in his video but didn't think more about it until the weekend when I played my two battery sucking games again. I was stunned to see the battery meter had barely moved after my normal 10 minutes of gaming. I played on for another 10 minutes and there was some movement but the battery was still well over at half capacity, where before 20 minutes of gaming would have it in Battery Saver mode. I recharged the phone overnight and played the games again the next day to the same improved result. I even played them on the commute home from work one day and still the phone had plenty of charge for the rest of the evening.

I'm happy to see that some others are noticing improvement as well. I have installed the new firmware update as well and I have Cortana set to listen for Hey Cortana commands. As I said, I love the XL and I'm thinking of buying a second. The phone does everything I need it to do and my local bank has a Windows 10 mobile app so even that base is covered. Where I used to be eager to spot other Windows Phone users in the wild, now I'm happy to be one the rebels who has resisted the urge to join the hordes on other ecosystems. Anniversary Update's fixing of the one issues I was having with the XL is frosting on the cake.

Hi, I have very similar problems with battery drain just wondered if you found a solution. My 950xl had reasonable battery life before AU, done two hard resets, checked all the settings, moved everything to phone from SD card etc.. Still drains so much faster than my L730 on the same build.....

Nope, gave up, running a 6P now, battery is awesome, Live integration, not so much. UI is okay, definitely not W10m though. Love the platform, the 950XL, well....
If the battery, Bluetooth, wifi, and other stuff get ironed out, I may switch back to W10m (okay, probably).
Other weird deal, getting 56-59/12-25mbps now, 6P, was getting 8-15/3-8mbps with the 950xl.
Same SIM card, exact same location, crazy slow 950XL cell perf.
Weirder still, my daughter's 1020, limited to 4G, almost as fast as the 6P.
Go figure...

Lumia 640 user. Before the Anniversary update, my phone would barely make it a full day on 4G, from morning 6 with a full charge, getting home at 8 in the evening always had battery saver on. I had switched off many background services, uninstalled many apps etc. This has caused me to regret my pick as my main device for communication.

After the Anniversary update, the phone feels smooth, battery now lasts almost 1 & half days to 2 days without a charge. All apps are on "managed by windows", I can forget the battery issue, it's almost like I got a brand new phone after almost a 1 year of purchase.

Battery life is still not what it was before the update.

BUT I have got it to improve significantly by turning of the iris scanner and more importantly the buggy crappy DDTW option (which does not work 3/4 of the time anyways).

My battery life has definitely improved after AU. I was barely getting a day out of it before AU and since updating to AU I haven't really messed with any of the background app settings at all. I've only turned some off for some apps if anything.

Edit: oops forgot to say I'm on L950xl

I've had phenomenal battery life! Especially when browsing on edge, that used to be a battery hog, not anymore. I don't leave Bluetooth or wifi on all the time though, only when I specifically use it. Only thing that hasn't improved is age of empire castle siege. That game can ruin any chance of your battery making it through a day
