Battery solution

My drain is pretty normal with WIFI on.. I do however only have three favorite networks.. L925

Everyone in this thread knows this is a developer preview and is a discussion about battery issues and what is causing it not ******** about it. the battery drain isn't consistent among us. So you say its not the OS but then you say its a preview and not optimized?? Ummmm so yes its is the OS

No it's because you all don't have the right firmware. No matter what you do the battery problem won't be solved until the official update. This whole thread is a waste of time. Roll back to 8.0 and get on with your lives.

I'm pretty sure it is the fault of the OS. I have been testing and have come to the conclusion of another poster on a smaller site. It is to do with Location and the new Geo fencing feature, which checks GPS in the background and doesn't even show the location icon while doing it. I have a second WP8.1 that stays at home and this doesn't have any battery issues, but the phone I travel with does. I'm starting to remember each time the phone gets hot and its while I'm traveling. I've actually turned of location now as the phone was pretty unusable. I now have the same battery life as I used to have in 8.0.

Next time your phone gets hot whilst not really using it...are you traveling/moving around ?

I dont have battery issues sense turning off Wi-Fi sense but I've been running for the last few days with Cortana off and has made a pretty good improvement in battery life. 8.1 seems to check location a lot more with Cortana. I'd like to see an option to turn off just GPS and just run off of network location.

If it is the OS the same should be happening with all phones equally, which it is not.
Phones react differently, some not at all and others have various problems. On all you have the 8.1 operating system and the 8.0 firmware for that particular phone. That is the way it is. When 8.1 is released to the general public it will have the 8.1 OEM firmware. Till then you can only try to mitigate the symptoms

Its happening differently because people use their phones differently, have settings set differently....and do you really thing MS would release this to millions of its most loyal customers knowing the old firmware would screw it up ! As it is, it is looking like it has something to do with the new location features. Like others have found, WiFi sense is looking like the prime candidate. This probably uses the new geo fencing location feature.

Yes you are right. I turned location back on and turned off WiFi sense yesterday and not had the massive battery drain issue since. This backs up my theory of traveling/moving around triggers it. I left Cortana on, I'm sure this does reduce battery life a bit over 8.0 but that's to be expected of a new additional feature.

Cortana is worth 2-3 hours over a 24hr period for me (1520) so she doesn't take really that much juice and I will turn her back on, just wanted to see his how much she affected battery. So turning her off based on a typical 12-14 hour day isn't worth it, but if you know your gonna be away from a charger for a weekend then yes you could squeeze more use out of it.
