I still think that the icons should be flattened up.

Looks like they just moved their assets to a Metro Template. Seems like they didn't really put much thought in the design. Let's see how it turns out. I guess they want to add functionality first. Seems to fit the GENERAL BBM feel though, color schemes and icons. Thanks for the post, was really curious. How does it fair with say, whatsapp, Viber, Kik or even the Messages app?

Still in Beta. Hopefully, they are focusing on the backend and they will make the design better in the future.
