Best method of data and app backup

Hello,
One of the bulbs in my Lumia 1520 is damaged and it looks like I need to send my phone in for repairs. What is the best way of backing up all of my phone's data and app so I don't lose anything? Should I move all my apps to the SD card and store it somewhere safe?

If you go to - Settings -> Backup that will backup almost everything you need.

Personally I connect my phone to my W8.1 machine to back up anything else like pictures and music.

App data on the other hand is another issue entirely. Not all apps allow backing up of data and saving your apps to SD won't help I believe. I could be wrong though.
