My corporate exchange server will be getting shut down sometime in the near future and I have a few personal contacts that wound up there from some years ago.

What is the best way to just move or copy these contacts to the Microsoft account? What would be awesome would be a copy/move contact on the WP8 edit screen. Sadly that isn't an option.

Open outlook
Click on "Address Book"
Find the contact you want to migrate and right click on it
Click "Add to contacts"

This should add the contact to the local contact list.

I finally got it. In outlook I had to go into File -> Options -> Advanced and export to csv file. Then I went in to People and imported from there. It crashed the fist time and then it worked the second. Back from when I had an iPhone it would store all my personal contacts in the Exchange server.

Also, I tried the pst first but that wouldn't import for being too large.

After all that I discovered my Microsoft account wasn't syncing to my phone. That turned out to be from a large text thread delete that caused syncing to fail. The solution for that is to turn of text message backup.
