Black screen???!!!

Not sure what happened. Last night I turned it on. tried to enter my password into the box and nothing happened. Frozen screen. somehow I swiped the screen and it went to a black screen could not get out of it. tried to power off but nothing happened. I get the swipe down to turn off screen , but nothing really happens. I get a slightly lighter black sreen that if I move my finger over, I can make wavy lines. Any ideas???

my unit has froze like that, just once, I think i had to hold the power button down a really long time to get to shutdown
