Bring back longer battery icon (uservoice petition)

How about it taking profile (square) pics from Facebook?

Do I need to update everyone on my friends list to please use "proper" headshots for their profile pics so that some sketchy MS service can get it right?

I don't know how much this is going to matter. A 50-60 pixel circle or a 50-60 pixel square is little different for displaying a face, because even if they're perfectly centred you can't really see a person properly.

Here's a sample from my phone:

I've known him for 26 years, but I'd struggle to recognise him from that image. Fortunately his name will be right next to it.

I've learned to take the design changes with a grain of salt. That said, I'm more interested in exactly *what* prompted somebody earning $100k+ to sit back and say... "Hey! that battery icon is way too frickin' long!" And then... enough people at MS agreed so the issue got put on the "change" list.

I guess whatever made some apple employee making $100k to say "hey those cellular data bars are so out of style! Lets change them to dots instead"
😳

The battery icon was and is (on any os) barely any good at pinpointing just how much battery life you have anyway! It's pretty much represents full, half full, and about to die, anything in between these is better represented by the %..so a shorter battery icon is nothing to complain about

You can actually tell as your meter goes down what percent it could be. There's 100, then 99-91, 90-81, 80-71, etc etc etc. Goes down a pinch every time.

They didn't. They just tried to make all of the icons fit within a square proportion, and to be of a small size.

The icon is alright in principle. It uses 2px-wide lines to indicate the fill, and there are ten inside the battery shape. In theory, you have an indicator that shows you your battery to an accuracy of 10% or less, which ought to be fine. In practice, it's not so easy to read, and it's very hard to tell 30% from 40%, or 70% from 80%.

I'm not sure why they don't just have a percentage to say "67%" or whatever, but since they don't want to do that I think they should break up those lines so you can actually see them, and maybe get rid of the outline and gap around the outline. It doesn't matter that you can't fit ten 2px lines in with 1px gaps - you'd get 7 on a full charge - because all you need a visual indication of approximately how much battery you've got left, not a fully informative reading.

Here's how that would look (click to see at normal size):

The outline and the gap around the outline are wasting more space than they need to, I think. If those were stripped fully or in part, there'd be more to play with here.

This image shows there is something wrong with the battery icon. It should either be centred (probably not the best option but better than now) or scaled up to the same size as the clock and the other icon. Note it was the same size as the clock in 8.1

I think there could be a problem there regarding relative scale across low-res phones and high-res ones. The clock, given that it's a text thing, presumably doesn't have a fixed size at all, and I guess the minimal size of these icons is related to the same problem - how to fit them well onto all phones' displays.

Off-topic, but, I really like the dots. They seem quite unique. The bars are so 2005ish.

If fact looking at the screenshot and an actual phone with windows 10 preview, all the icons are different sizes vertically, which looks very odd. I would be shocked if they aren't made the same size and positioned properly before the final release.

I've updated my phone with windows 10 techinical preview for developers.

100% battery lasts for only 4 hours at the maximum.

how can i solve this issue ? please help !

Nobody knows. If you haven't installed any new apps which might be the culprit, then you only have two choices: wait for updates while committing to all the battery-saving tactics you can use, or go back to WP8.1 until the problems are dealt with.

I don't think I've got this problem, but then again it would be hard to tell because I use a Lumia 920 and it wasn't too great under WP8.1 either.

I agree with this. The new battery icon is terrible and I can never really know the battery life. Then again I'm already always swiping down on the action center to see the % because Microsoft refuses to put the battery % always visible while every other phone has that.

+1 to this. Can't understand why that option is not there.
