Broken screen

So sad times happened yesterday, my Surface RT dropped onto my foot (was putting in my headphones into jack and fumbled) and with just a 2 foot drop and landing on not even the floor, but my foot, the screen cracked diagonally almost in half :\ the top half of the crack doesn't respond at all, but the bottom half still does.

Just curious if anyone has any experience with repair for something like this. I know teardown scores have been pretty brutal, but my main question is most people charge 200$ to replace the LCD/digitizer, you can buy just the part from ebay for 80$, or buy a new Surface 2 for 299$. What do you guys think is the best option?

Also, before people jump in, I love my surface, so don't suggest any ipad/android replacement.

I am pretty good at fixing things and I would hesitate to risk $100 on my RT that I paid $179 for. I would lean toward an upgrade even though I cannot afford it now.
