Bug/defect checklist for new and future Lumia 920 owners

Soft reset while on a call

Hi,
I'm french and using a Nokia Lumia 920 for about 2 weeks now (we were lucky to have it earlier in stores). Have a few feedbacks that could be interesting here:

- Battery drain. During the very first days, battery life was really not impressive. 6 hours for the first drain test. I downloaded a lot to set it up, including all my applications (was using a WP7 before). The firsts days were giving me between 6 -10 hours a day of battery life. I did not changed the setup form that time but it improved quite a lot. I'm now having around 24-27 hours battery life almost constantly. However, as I can not take it for 2 days without charge, i'm used to charge it every night, starting at midnight and running out of the charger at 7 am. I do not use induction charger yet, as I still need to find one.

- Freeze and soft/resets. I did not experience a single one during the 4 first days. And then starting to have almost a daily or 2 soft resets a day. I did install the app "Battery tile" on the 3rd day. The first time, I noticed I have to key the pin code of my sim card on the 4th day (suspected a soft reset, but not sure until I saw it happening). Not sure it is linked, but this application was stopping to report the proper charge sometimes, so I uninstalled it. This was last Thursday. I did install Battery Level for doing the same, with more functionalities. I did not experienced a single soft reset since. I would tend to suspect Battery Tile to have caused my issue of soft resets. Not sure however it is the case.

Thought to myself... genius!! It's got to be the battery app....but no luck here. My phone is still soft resetting randomly when I am on a call with someone. Getting an exchange to see if it gets better

I'm having the same issue. The Bluetooth will often have a lot of pauses distortion while trying to play on my 2012 Ford Focus Sync. Its like its almost out of range, but the phone is in my hand near the receiver. I didn't have these Bluetooth issues with my Surround.

What is really weird is that it doesn't have these problems with two other stereo bluetooth headsets, only the car's.

The other nusiance, which isn't really a bug but a design flaw, is I can't play subscription music over USB. If its a purchased song that downloaded as an MP3, its fine. If its a Xbox Music subsciption download, it just sits at 0:00 when its trying to play. I know its because SYNC doesn't support the DRM of Xbox music yet, but this is really broken to me. Zune didn't have this problem and would play flawlessly. Sadly the Zune service is gone now and the hard drive on my Zune just failed :'(

Have you checked if there's an update to Ford Sync? I know they periodically release firmware updates for that, so it could be an issue with Sync more than Lumia. Possibly. Worth a check. :)

Also, I have to agree... I'm NOT happy with Xbox Music transition. That's on Microsoft more than Nokia or Lumia, obviously, but the whole music sync experience is complete and utter garbage right now. I had to re-download a lot of my music to get things going again, AND WORSE, I lost my Zune Dynamic playlists moving to Xbox Music... they're now static playlists. I had one that auto-updated for "liked" and "unliked" music.

i had this happened today, but didnt think nothing of it..it would hold to the signal then let go, went through that cycle for about a min...

fyi

I noticed the same here (Chicago area) already in WP7.5 on my Lumia 710 with Nokia Maps, which is the only maps app on the Lumia 920 (correct me if I am wrong and please dont quote Att Navigator ;) ). However if I used Bing Maps, the traffic info was way more exhaustive than with Nokia Maps. Doesn't seem to make any sense.

I had an issue with my Lumia 920 this morning, where it would register the Att LTE service and immediately disconnect again striked-through 5bars, then reconnect and disconnect...
After I turned on Airplane mode and then off again, it worked fine.

Coming from a Lumia 710, the Audio quality on headphones is superb on the 920, even podcasts sound great like you are in the Studio :) (with Klipsch S4i)

I'm having the signal cycling issue as well. Mine will often stick on EDGE.

Had my first real issue. I've owned the Lumia 920 since launch day, and I had been charging it via a USB cable connected to my desktop. I always charge my phones this way.

Well, I decided to try charging it using a wall outlet. Left it overnight, and went to work in the morning. The battery stayed at 100 percent. An hour later, it's still at 100 percent. Three hours later...yup, still 100 percent.

Well, a soft reset took care of the issue, but I did a factory reset just to be safe.

I'm charging the phone once again via the wall charger. Let's hope that this was a one time thing.

Second, when I'm on a call with someone, if an email alert comes in, I hear a very faint text notification TWICE then the email notification once. It is VERY distracting to hear "ding ding ****ing DING!" in my ear all the time, lol.

My WP 7.5 Lumia 900 does this, too. Always has. Not that it is consolation but it is not a unique problem to the 920.

Nokia Drive GPS

Haven't seen this issue posted elsewhere, wondering if it's unique.

When I first got the phone, I was driving around a lot, and of course used my nifty new phone.

The GPS would find me, find directions, and show it all in Nokia Drive, but the GPS would never update my position. Turn by turn navi obviously didn't work, because the phone seemed to think I was always at my starting position. It also occurred sometimes in the middle of following directions; that is, randomly in my trip, it just stopped following me, telling me I was 4 miles away from next turn for 20 minutes.

It occasionally corrected itself and jumped back to following me.

Anyone else?

I don't know if it's been said already but the audio crackle/ piped speaker sound is not from music or even the external speaker from being defective, it still happens with headphones in and it only does it to the alert sounds on the phone, not music. My titan did this as well. Its a OS issue I think.

Anybody have issues watching embeded youtube videos on sites like forums?

On the 900 i was able to watch youtbue vids embedded in threads on a forum i go to now it says i need flash or a browswer which supports html5 which ie10 does support.

Any help appreciated.

Same here. If I push down in front of the headphone jack, it moves and makes a popping noise. If we are the exception, I might look to exchange it. Unless this seems like a common occurrence.

I have this same issue, but mine flexes/pops by the bottom left front corner, near the screen. I'm just past the 14 days though, so I might be out of luck. Not a huge deal, but obviously once you notice it, it becomes pretty annoying.

I have another issue related to bluetooth - i'm using the Chrysler 430 audio and the voice dialing no longer works - with my previous iPhone, a simple tap to call will recognize your voice. Lumia 920 will not recognize names in my contacts/address book, but will recognize numbers. I'm not sure if this is a setup issue or something that is no longer supported, can someone please direct me in the right place? Thanks, much appreciated!

Phone heats up

I got my phone last night. I talked for 25 minutes this morning. After 10 minutes phone started heating up. I downloaded 4 or 5 apps. How do I see which apps are running?

Check in Settings-> Applications -> Internet Explorer if it is set to Mobile rather than desktop, "Desktop" sometimes causes issues with embedded video.

Hope that helps.

The 3 capacitive buttons on my white Lumia 920 do not light up any more. They did for about the first hour of use, and would occasionally blip on for the lock screen, but now they do not. A reset did not resolve the issue, which makes me think this is a hardware problem.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Hold down the "back" button. To quit open apps, select the app furthest to the right (essentially opening it) and then press the "back" button over and over again until you return to the Start screen.

When I move from home and work it wont connect to either wifi after being on the other unless I reboot the phone.

Bluetooth wont auto connect, I have to delete the bluetooth device and re-add it for it to work.

Very annoying with wifi... Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks Kaz. I had only 2 apps running. Youtube and USA Today. That shouldn't be a reason for phone to heat up. I killed all the apps. Tried again. This time it didn't heat up.

Then I realized. Last time I talked, phone was also connected to the charger. Not on charging pad. Actual usb charger. Could this be a reason for phone heating? This never happened to my Droid.

Thanks,
Jay

I verified this again. If phone is connected to wall charger and if I receive a call, then phone heats up. Not just warm. It becomes really hot.

Has anybody noticed this? Should I exchange the phone or is this a common thing?

Thanks,
Jay

I'm sorry I'm not planning on reading the 8 pages, but for me the locked screen notifications are a little bit weird on this phone, especially facebook notifications and voicemail notifications...

for instance if you have a voicemail you will see the notification, but once you check the notification stays there for at least 5 to 10 minutes after I've seen my facebook msg

My phone arrived yesterday.. here's an update
There are 5 email accts on my phone, syncing every 15 mins, CNN,weather, stocks, and Nokia drive are running in the back ground, I text the whole day, and 3 calls about 15 mins each...

My battery is at 78% no problems so far.

Man...
I figured I would read/keep up with this thread so I could test these issues if/when I get a new phone. (Yes...I may get one) My wife and I are both out of contract and I have her interested in a 920 too. These issues are starting to concern me. I know this is a small sampling, but it is still concerning. She would be moving from an iphone 3gs and I would like the transition to be as smooth as possible. I hope she does not experience any of these issues. If it happens to me, fine, but I want her to have a great experience with WP.

A lot of these sound like FW updates can fix them. I do hope that Nokia or Microsoft acknowledge some of these soon (besides the camera) like they did with the 900.

I have a few concerns, but a big one is the exchange email. She has to use it for work, and it works flawlessly on her current phone. It goes right into her email app as a separate account. She has access to the global contacts and appointments sync directly to her phone's calendar. This is a must have. Otherwise this or any phone is useless to her.
