Camera: "Adding the finishing touches" takes forever

So I've read that this new forced HDR feature gives you that "Adding the finishing touches" message whenever you try to preview the photo you just took right away. The article I read says it takes a couple of seconds on a Lumia 1520 and only when HRD is on, that the photo is available right away when you take the photo with HDR off, meaning you can zoom in, etc. That's not my experience on build 10586.218 (and it wasn't on previous builds either). Whenever I take a photo, it's always at least 10 seconds before I can actually do anything useful with the photo in preview more. And when using HDR, it's actually over one whole minute! Unless the flash comes on, which is weird. I also tried changing my storage to internal and SD to see if I found different results and not all. These are the times I get. Is everyone's experience similar?

I turned off 'Capture living images' in camera settings and this helped on my 640. This issue started on .164 but was fine on .107

I just tried that and HDR off, flash off now takes 5 seconds instead of 12 (thank you!), but HDR on, flash off still takes around 20 seconds. That's MUCH better than 1m 25s, but still way too long to wait if you want to look at, zoom or send a photo you just took. How long does it take for you?

New photos are normally available after 5 or 6 seconds. Flash setting doesn't affect this.

When flash is on, does camera take living image? Flash-on HDR/Rich is about flash amount only while flash-off is about HDR amount?

For me, HDR/Rich capture is a) waste of time b) unreliable (1280x720 px thumbnail)... Living images is fun so I'll prefer them :)

Saving images to internal storage made HDR/Rich work better on 640, but I don't know if images come out any better... After moving the images to SD, living images were dead, or import to PC killed them. Fortunately OneDrive had working copies :)

For me, the new Camera is much improved. It is a shame that the card reader on 1520 can't write fast enough for it. My poor Beast is finally starting to show its age just a little.

Out of curiosity, these finishing touches are something that is done automatically in the background or only when you view the photo for the first time? Don't have a phone with those kind of features

It's a background process.

But if you stack too many of them (rapid shots) they can cause the "Saving..." screen in Camera. Or if you take a shot and immediately tap the preview spot in Camera to open the pic, you may see "Applying finishing touches."

this messed me up pretty bad over the weekend trying to take photos of my daughters gymnastic events.
took one good photo and then it kept saying "Saving......" and seemed like to lasted for ever (like 3 minutes actually).
was long enough that I missed out on 2 more shots.
Lumia ICON on W10M .218

Read above. Turning live pictures off partially addresses this. Not using HDR also help. I realize you are taking away features so that other features work properly, but it is what it is right now.
