Camera lens cover protector

I was wondering, if the camera lens glass has a protector like the screen protector? Without a protector does it stay without getting scratches?

So far, I have got no scratches but I do get dust lodged in the edge of the plastic and lens. A lens cleaning brush easily cleans that up.

I thought of cutting up a screen protector and sticking it on the lens but I realized that I might introduce imperfections when taking a photo.

So I decided to get that Nilkin case with a lip around the camera bulge.

Another option would be to get an O-ring and fit it around the lens. There was/is a commercial version that has a flat side with adhesive.
