OTG (On The Go) is not supported by the Lumia 820 - the voltage coming from the micro-usb connector is simply too low.

I've tried it myself by connection a pair of OTG USB-speakers; but it didn't work (well, the sound from the cell speaker was muted - but since there was not enough power for the external speakers I didn't get any sound out of it).
